WARNING
Use of Baker equipment contrary to manufacturers specification may result in property damage, serious injury or fatality.
Operation
The Safety Joint is run on the drill pipe directly above the packer. Either a left-hand release or a right-hand release tool may be run, depending on which is desired. The Safety Joint is released by taking an upstrain on the drill pipe and rotating to the left or right, depending on which tool is run. Hold approximately 1,000 to 3,000 lbs tension on the tool. Apply 700 to 750 ft/lbs of torque for each alloy steel shear screw in the proper direction for release. An additional 11 turns of rotation will release the top sub of the safety joint for removal from the well. The Overshot will be the first tool run in the hole when fishing operations commence. To re-engage the tool, run the Overshot. Upon reaching required depth, "feel" for the Safety Joint. Fifteen turns to the right at the tool are required to makeup the threads. The string is now reconnected and pipe manipulation may begin.
Overshot
NOTE: The Overshot Skirt (4) must have its OD machined to match the casing it is to be run into.
1. Place Top Sub (3) in vise. 2. Install O-ring (1) and Back-Up Rings (2). 3. Make-up the Overshot Skirt (4) or (5).
Disassembly
All parts should be visibly inspected for damage as they are disassembled. Particular attention should be paid to seal surfaces, O-ring grooves, and threads. All wrench and tong marks should also be repaired as much as possible.
Assembly
Refer to the Tech Unit on "Seals and Lubricants for DST Tools" under Index 442.00 for proper back-up ring and lubricant selection. Make sure all parts are clean and in good condition. Apply a light coat of recommended lubricant on seal surfaces prior to assembly. Scarf cut all OD back-up rings (except on overshot) for seals and install all seals and back-up rings
Overshot
1. Place Top Sub (3) in vise. 2. Remove the Overshot Skirt (4) or (5). 3. Remove all Seals and Back-Up Rings (2).
