O Lord, Your Word is power to accuse and power to acquit, it is the power to create and recreate. Through Your Holy Spirit You have called me by the Gospel to be Your child and an heir of everlasting life. Grant that the new life that Your Word has created in me results in my saying, speak, for Your servant hears, so that as I listen to Your Word I may grow in the knowledge of your love, in obedience to Your will and in sharing Your love as I serve my neighbor. I pray this in Jesus holy name. Amen

Welcome to everyone! It is indeed good for you to be here today. St. Paul in his letter to the Romans writes, so faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. (Romans 10:17) As we gather around Gods Word this morning let us pray that it accomplishes the purpose for which it was sent. We ask that everyone fill out an attendance registration card found at each pew and return it to an Usher as the Offering is collected. Restrooms are located on the lower level of this building or across the bridge on this floor level before entering the fellowship hall. If you have any questions please ask one of our greeters or ushers. Children are welcome in our Service and will be invited to come forward for a Childrens Message. Parents may accompany them. A nursery for infants and toddlers is located downstairs for anyone who has need.

Holy Communion is celebrated in our 10:45 Service this morning. If you are not a member of Grace and desire to receive this Sacrament of Christs body and blood given and shed for the forgiveness of sins, we ask that you first speak with our Pastor so that the unity of faith might be established. Thank you for honoring this request.

The boy Samuel heard the voice of the Lord calling to him in the temple and answered: Speak, for Your servant hears. God continues to speak to us today in His Word, and we respond as did Samuel, asking our Lord to speak to us as we listen with all of our heart. As we continue steadfast in the Word of truth we grow in faith and in the knowledge that Jesus is our Lord and Savior. The Spirit works through Means, Word and Sacrament, to give to us the incomparable riches of Gods grace, connecting us to the God who made us and then remade us to be His special people who readily desire to hear His Word.

NEXT WEEKS READINGS - The appointed readings for next Sunday, January 22nd: Third Sunday after the Epiphany, are: The Old Testament Reading: Jonah 3:1-5, 10, The Epistle Reading: 1 Corinthians 7:29-31, and The Gospel Reading: Mark 1:14-20.

Confession of Sins
P O almighty God, merciful Father, C I, a poor, miserable sinner, confess unto You all my sins and iniquities with which I have ever offended You and justly deserved Your temporal and eternal punishment. But I am heartily sorry for them and sincerely repent of them, and I pray You of Your boundless mercy and for the sake of the holy, innocent, bitter sufferings and death of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to be gracious and merciful to me, a poor, sinful being.

P Upon this your confession, I, by virtue of my office, as a called and ordained servant of the Word, announce the grace of God unto all of you, and in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen

Ps. 40:15; antiphon: Ps. 40:10a, b

P In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. C Amen

P I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart; C I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation; P I waited patiently for the LORD; C he inclined to me and heard my cry. P He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, C and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. P He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. C Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD. P Blessd is the man who makes the LORD his trust, C who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie! P You have multiplied, O LORD my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can compare with you! C I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more than can be told.

Hebrews 10:22; Psalm 124:8; Psalm 32:5

P Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. P Our help is in the name of the Lord, C who made heaven and earth. P I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord, C and You forgave the iniquity of my sin.

very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life T of the world to come. Amen
