CONTROLS PLAYER CONTROLS W/S or up/down arrow: Move forward/back (steer with the mouse or keys).

A/D keys, left/right arrows, and mouse left/right movement: Steer left/r ight. Q: Toggle between different speeds. (Walk and Trot.) Left mouse button or Spacebar: Bite H: Howl J: Wag Tail (Multiplayer Only) K: Play Bow (Multiplayer Only) X: Jump Comma key: Hide mouse pointer and enable mouse steering after switching away from the game window (Windowed mode only). HELP PANEL ? or /: Open and close the help panel, which includes a keyboard map and this text help. To hide the on-screen reminder for the help hotkey, press ESC, choose "Game Settings," and uncheck "Show Tutorials." CAMERA CONTROLS Mouse Scrollwheel: Zoom camera in and out. O: Switch back and forth between "camera follow" and "camera orbit" mode s. Orbit Mode [ ]: Make the camera turn around the wolf and stay in that posit ion. (In camera follow, the camera will always move behind the wolf so you can s ee ahead.) + / - : Zoom camera in and out. (Don't press shift key.) During Opening Flyover SPACEBAR: Skip the flyover. SCENT VIEW V: Enter/Exit Scent View mode. The scent trail of each animal appears as a separate color for each crea ture type. On better graphics cards, the background will be gray. Follow the sce nt trail to find the animal. You can see a distant carcass as a scent plume in t he sky. Run over a scent trail to find out what kind of animal made the trail an d how old it is. (Scent view is disabled during social encounters.) NAME TAGS N: Turn name in box over each wolf's head on and off. Names are also visible in the World Map. WORLD MAP M: Turn world map on and off. The map shows terrain landmarks, your wolf , your mate, other wolves in multiplayer, elk hunting grounds, and other pack te rritories. It also shows the location of the game level within Yellowstone Natio

nal Park. SCREEN IMAGE CAPTURE F1 / ENTER (numeric keypad): Save a screenshot in the PNG file format. T he screenshot will be the size of your current screen resolution. Screenshot are saved in your My Documents (Username)/WolfQuest folder. They are numbered start ing from 1 each time you launch the game. OPTIONS MENU ESC: Open/Close the option menu to view your stats, change graphics sett ings, and resume, load, save, and quit a game. (The Options menu can be opened d uring the opening flyover.) Game Settings Graphics Quality Level: Choose a quality setting to balance game performance with visual quality. If the screen goes completely blank in Scent View, choose "Fast" or "F astest" only as your graphics quality when you start the game. QUALITY NOTES * The game launches at a resolution of 1024x768 in full screen m ode. To change that resolution (as low as 800x600 for slower computers/video car ds, higher for better cards, or to choose a widescreen format) or play in window ed mode, hold down ALT (OPTION on Mac) when you click on the game icon on your d esktop. * The "Fantastic" setting will turn on hardware anti-aliasing if your video card supports it. However, you must quit and restart the game again in Fantastic mode for anti-aliasing to be turned on and off. (You may also selec t Fantastic from the resolution dialog that appears before the splash screen) Terrain, Tree, Grass Drawing Distance: Slide the sliders to adju st how far away the terrain is drawn for best performance. Enable Shadows: At Good, Beautiful, and Fantastic quality levels , you can turn shadows on and off. This is very demanding of the CPU and graphic card, so it will reduce framerate quite a bit. The shadow option is not availab le for older graphics cards or integrated Intel and ATI graphics chips. Music Volume: Set the music volume. (Zero volume stops music pla yback and may help performance slightly on slower systems.) Wolf Steering Speed Sensitivity: If your wolf seems hard to cont rol, adjust how fast your wolf turns in response to moving the mouse or pressing the A/D or left/right keys. Show Framerate: See how fast the game is running on your compute r. 15-20 fps is the minimum to feel like the game is running smoothly. Show Tutorials: Turn the display of the on-screen reminders on a nd off. Hide HUD: Hide the compass and wolf badge for taking screenshots or recording machinima movies. Load Game: Load a saved game. (Single Player Only) Loading a saved game will NOT save your current game. Save Game: Save the current game state. (Single Player Only) Enter the n

ame for your game save. Entering an existing save name will replace that save. R emove saved games by quitting the game, then navigating to the WolfQuest folder in your home directory and deleting the file. NOTE: Loading and saving is disabled when a stranger wolf is vis ible. To save before or after a social encounter, leave the area where the stran ger appears. Player Stats If there is a mate in the game, the name may be changed in the s tats panel. ON-SCREEN DISPLAYS WOLF METER Green stamina bar (top): How much energy you have. Running and attacking costs you stamina. You regain stamina by stopping and resting. Red health bar (bottom): Your current health level. You lose health when prey items struggle or a stranger wolf attacks you. Eat to restore your health. (You can only eat rabbits if you do not need to restore your health.) Wolf Name: The name you gave your wolf on the Customize Your Wolf screen will appear here. Mate Indicator: A red heart will appear on the badge when you have a mat e. The brightness of the heart shows your mate's health level. Strength Bonus Indicator (Multiplayer Only): The red "biting head" with a +2 strength bonus will appear on the badge after a successful rally. COMPASS Compass heading: The compass points in the direction your wolf is headin g. (Note that because of the shape of the terrain, the top of the World Map is a ctually NE on the compass.) Available Mission Icon: Hunting and social encounter missions appear in the direction you will find them as you move on the map. Bright white icons are closer. Dim icons are farther away. Active Mission Icon: When you have entered the mission area, the icon wi ll appear as a mission badge above the compass and you will hear a sound. Now yo u can search for the mission target using your scent view or sight. Mate location indicator: The small heart at the bottom of the compass mo ves to show your mate's location when it is BEHIND you. Think of this as a rearview mirror for your mate. TARGET INDICATOR White Arrow: When you are within range of a prey animal, aim your wolf t oward it and a white arrow will point down to the animal and its health bar will appear. Prey Health Bar: How much health the target prey has. The more health, t he harder it will be to kill. This also shows how much food value a carcass has. ACTION INDICATOR When you approach another animal close enough, the mouse pointer will appear as a wolf head:

Red biting head: Click the mouse or press space bar to bite the other cr eature. Green biting head: Click the mouse or press space bar to feed on a carca ss. MULTIPLAYER Open vs. Private Games A private game requires a password to enter the game. The player hosting the game sets the password. Share passwords privately, such as via Private Mess age or email. Starting or joining an open game requires an activated WolfQuest Communi ty account. Get one free at http://www.wolfquest.org/bb. You do not have to post on the forums to play the game. A player's forum name is shown in the chat wind ow when they join an open game. Abusive players in open games will be banned fro m the forums and open games. Report abuse at http://www.wolfquest.org/abuse. C: Activate the chat window to send messages or review older messages. Chat Messages: When the chat window is active, type a message and press RETURN or click the Send button. The message will be filtered through a list of allowable words . If a word is replaced by "???," it is not in the list. Messages with missing w ords will not be sent to other players. Correct your message to include allowabl e words an send again. If you don't want to correct the message, delete all text and press send to close the window. The chat window scrolls down to keep the mo st recent messages in view. When the chat window is active, you can scroll back up the chat to see previous messages. H: Howl starts a rally. J and K: Play back affiliative behaviors, either as "emoticon" behaviors when interacting with your friends, or to add to a rally. Pack Rally Press "H" to start a Pack Rally. The rally panel shows the name of the p layer starting a Pack Rally. All other players have a limited amount of time, sh own by the timer wheel, to come close enough to that player to go on with the ra lly. The rally will start if the yellow bar reaches the top before the timer run s out. When the display changes to a blue bar and says "Rally!" players must do affiliative behaviors (H, J, K keys) to bring the blue bar to the top before th e timer runs out. A successful rally gives a +2 strength bonus. Strength Bonus Each player receives a +2 strength bonus that lasts for a limited amount of time. The bonus increases the damage a player does when biting prey. Only on e bonus can be in effect at a time. If a rally succeeds while a bonus is already in place, that rally is just for fun and does not restart or increase the bonus .
