The Effects of Different Factors on the Period of a Pendulum

Materials
Stand String Masses Stop Watch Meter stick Protractor

Method
I.String Length 1. Set up your experiment by tying the string to the stand and then connecting the mass to the string perhaps by again tying the string 2. To test the factor of string length, your constants will be 20 gram mass and 10 degree amplitude. Start with a string length of 50 centimeters. 3. For each test, lift the mass to the amplitude (10 degrees) using a protractor to measure the degrees. Be sure the string is straight and not loose 4. Ready the stop watch 5. Let go of the mass while simultaneously starting the stop watch. 6. Stop the stop watch when the mass stops moving and record the time (in seconds) along with the string length and trial number. 7. When you trial is over, decrease the string length by 10 centimeters

8. Repeat steps 1-7 until your string reaches the length of 10 centimeters.

II.Mass 1. Set up your experiment by tying the string to the stand and then connecting the mass to the string perhaps by again tying the string 2. To test the factor of mass, your constants will be a string length of 20

centimeters and 10 degree amplitude. 3. The masses will be 20g, 100g, 200g, and 500g 4. For each test, lift the mass to the amplitude (10 degrees) using a protractor to measure the degrees. Be sure the string is straight and not loose 5. Ready the stop watch 6. Let go of the mass while simultaneously starting the stop watch. 7. Stop the stop watch when the mass stops moving and record the time (in seconds) along with the mass and trial number. 8. When your trial is over, move on to the next given mass

9. Repeat steps 1-8 until you reach the last given mass

III.Amplitude 1. Set up your experiment by tying the string to the stand and then connecting the mass to the string perhaps by again tying the string 2. To test the factor of amplitude, your constants will be a 20 gram mass and a string length of 20 centimeters. Start with amplitude of 5 degrees. 3. Lift the mass to the amplitude using a protractor to measure the degrees. Be sure the string is straight and not loose 4. Ready the stop watch 5. Let go of the mass while simultaneously starting the stop watch. 6. Stop the stop watch when the mass stops moving and record the time (in seconds) along with the amplitude and trial number. 7. When you trial is over, increase the amplitude by 5 degrees

8. Repeat steps 1-7 until your amplitude reaches 20 degrees.

My School Year Contract

I expect mostly As in this class and to achieve my goal I will do various things to make sure I reach it. One thing I plan to do is become very organized and neat. This means having a divider for each subject in my binder but also having dividers for drills, class work, reference sheets and what not. I would like there not to be any loose papers in binder and minimum paper in the pockets of the binder. Along with doing my homework, I will take extra time to study the content of the days class and make sure I comprehend it. I will also try to stay afterschool or come before school for necessary extra help. Lastly I plan on being very attentive in class and taking many notes along with participating in class often to secure my understanding of the topics.
