Overview

By keeping up with the rapid development in the field of wireless communications, the wireless communication network becomes more reliable. However, for the blind spot coverage and private network with specific coverage, capacity, and service requirements, more flexible solutions are required. Customer-oriented and innovative, Huawei unveils the industry-leading BTS3900B GSM compact pico BTS (hereafter referred to as the BTS3900B). With the volume of only 2 L, the BTS3900B integrates multiple functional units of the traditional BTS, enabling multiple functions of the traditional BTS. Incorporated with the compact and noiseless design, as well as the support of IP transport, the BTS3900B features flexible site selection possibility and easy installation, enabling fast and cost-effective blind spot coverage. In addition, the BTS3900B provides effective services to small office buildings and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) with the private network. As an intelligent BTS, the BTS3900B features automatic data configuration, and automatic frequency configuration, enabling convenient deployment and maintenance of the BTS. The BTS3900B supports a maximum of two carriers and the automatic frequency planning function in the dual-band network. Figure 1.1 BTS3900B

1.2 Benefits
Simple Structure and Quick Network Construction
The BTS3900B is 2 L in volume and 1.5 kg in weight, one of the smallest pico BTS ever developed in the industry. No dedicated equipment room is required for the BTS3900B, and it

can be easily installed by one person with few common tools. The compact and integrated design of the BTS3900B facilitates installation, removal, and fast deployment. The BTS3900B supports automatic data configuration, and automatic frequency configuration, enabling the provision of services in a short time.

Flexible Applications with IP Transport

The BTS3900B supports the IP transport and IPSec protocol, ensuring the data security during the transmission. Adopting the IP transport, the BTS3900B can fully use the existing IP network resources, reducing the transmission cost significantly. The BTS3900B supports the IEEE 1588V2 clock synchronization mode and the Um interface clock synchronization mode, meeting the radio transmission network requirements and frequency requirements. The BTS3900B can easily access the IP network, facilitating flexible applications. The BTS3900B can provide private coverage for SMEs and small office buildings. It can also work with the existing indoor coverage networks, improving the indoor coverage in places such as malls, buildings, and parking lots. This enriches the GSM network solutions.

Energy-Saving and Green Communication Design

The low power consumption design and natural heat dissipation mode enable the BTS3900B to work in energy saving and mute mode. The maximum power consumption of the BTS3900B in dual-carrier configuration is only 32 W. The BTS3900B supports a wide range of AC input voltage from 90 V AC to 264 V AC. Therefore, the normal AC power can be supplied to the BTS3900B for flexible deployment. The BTS3900B can also work in Power over Ethernet (PoE) mode. Through the Ethernet cable, the BTS3900B can obtain power from the PoE power equipment. In PoE mode, the BTS3900B supports a maximum of one carrier, and the Ethernet cable supports a maximum distance of 100 m. The BTS3900B works in mute mode. Therefore, the indoor BTS3900B does not affect the life and work of people, facilitating flexible site selections.

Smooth Evolution and CAPEX Saving

In indoor applications, data services are rapidly developed. The BTS3900B supports the GPRS and EDGE packet services.

2.1 Overview
T

Architecture

The BTS3900B adopts highly integrated design. The functions such as transmission, main control, baseband processing, RF processing, and power amplifying of the traditional BTS are all integrated in the BTS3900B.

2.2 Components
The main components of the BTS3900B consist of the baseband processing board, RF module, and plastic housing. The baseband processing board processes baseband signals and implements main control and transmission functions, and the RF module transmits, receives, and processes RF signals. If AC power supply is used, the power adapter is required for the BTS3900B. The power adapter converts the AC power into the working voltage of the BTS3900B. If the PoE mode is adopted, external PoE power equipment must be configured. The PoE power equipment supplies power to the BTS3900B through the Ethernet cable. In this case, the power adapter is not required. The BTS3900B can be employed with built-in antennas or external antennas. 1.1 shows the BTS3900B with external antennas and BTS3900B with built-in antennas.

Application Scenarios

The BTS3900B is small and compact, works in mute mode, and occupies a small space. Therefore, the BTS3900B can easily be installed in a proper place without affecting the life and work of people. The BTS3900B can be installed on a wall, on a pole, or on a ceiling according to actual conditions. The BTS3900B can be easily and quickly installed with few common tools. 1.1 shows the typical installation options of the BTS3900B.

3.2 Application of the BTS3900B

The BTS3900B can flexibly meet the requirements for blind spot coverage and private coverage. The CAPEX on a site is small. Therefore, the BTS3900B is an excellent supplement to the existing network solution. The BTS3900B has an outstanding performance in the blind spot coverage and small private coverage. In addition, the BTS3900B supports IP transport, AC input, and fast deployment. Therefore, the BTS3900B is also applicable to temporary emergency communications. 1.1 shows the typical application of the BTS3900B.
