Diabetic Exercise
Exercise is the second step helping tool to control Diabetes, and plays an important role to maintain good diabetes control as well as to push back different grade of Diabetic complications. Modern researches establish this fact by their module experiments prooves the ancient aspect on it. In diabetes exercise helps to

Increases the number of Insulin receptors as well as the sensitivity of the same. Increases the promotion of delivery of oxygen to the peripheral tissues Improves Glucose Tolerance in NIDDM & IDDM, therefore reduces the insulin requirement in IDDM. Help to prevent atherosclerosis by reducing the cholesterol, Triglyceride LDL etc.

Maintain body weight, blood pressure & muscular tone. Increases the threshold of Heart, Lung, Kidney, Liver etc. by which they can bear more stress of diabetes and reduces the clinical complaints & increases feeling of well being. Help to decrease Insulin resistance. Reduces fat over tummy and help to maintain hip-waist ratio, which reduces the risks of Diabetic complications.

Due to these causes every Diabetologist stress to perform regular exercise and every diabetic should co-operate to the Doctor. But in regular practice Diabetic patient avoid exercise due to their following whims-

Why exercise required, while I am taking regular medication. Getting up early morning is difficult. I have very tight business schedule, I cant spare time for exercise. After domestic work exercise is not required. Age didnt permit for exercise. Some Diabetics escapes exercise due to weather problems. Some patients avoid exercise due to social restrictions or questionnaire.

But all Diabetics must know exercise is the only method to burn extra calories & maintain blood sugar level. Brisk walk is the choice of exercise but you can select any Aerobic exercise, It should be regular and according to an individual capacity & Age (and disability if any). Precautions in exercise

Exercise should be started after warm up, should not be vigorous by start. Insulin Dependent (Diabetes Mellitus) should not perform vigorous exercise , when the effect of insulin is on peak. (after 1 - 2 hr. of injection) If a person having Diabetes & Hypertension/cardiac ailments should perform exercise slowly, deep breathing is best for them. But regular consultation is required. Walking is the best exercise in Female Gestational Diabetes Mellitus.

Contra indication - In high fever, any severe infection, High blood sugar level.

Diabetic Complications
Sometimes a complication of diabetes may give a clue to the presence of the disease. The principle complications or sequel associated with diabetes are retinopathy, neuropathy, nephropathy and arteriosclerosis. Whether these are the unavoidable consequences of the diabetic state over time or whether they may be influenced by controlling the diabetes through aggressive monitoring, treatment and life-style management, including diet and supplements, remains a central topic. Specifically it found that lowering and maintaining more constant blood sugar levels reduced the risk of eye disease by 76%, kidney disease by 50%, nerve disease by 60% and cardiovascular disease by 35%. These complications are responsible for a reduction in the life expectancy of a newly diagnosed insulin dependent diabetic by about one-third. Neuropathy (nerve disease) : Diabetic neuropathies are one of the most frequent complications of long-term diabetes. The femoral nerve is frequently involved nerve giving rise to symptoms in the legs and feet. Pain is the prime symptom and be likely to get worse at night when the person is at rest. Paraesthesias are a common complement of the pain. Symptoms may

include slowed digestion, impaired heart function, decreased or absent perspiration, severe oedema, carpal tunnel syndrome, irregular bouts of diarrhea and constipation, bladder atony, urinary and faecal incontinence and impotence, erectile dysfunction. Neuropathies generally get better with the better control of the diabetes. Severe or chronic changes may need a long period to show maximum improvement. Retinopathy (eye disease) : Changes occurring in the eye which are characteristic of diabetes involve the hardening, narrowing, bulging, hemorrhaging or severing of the veins and capillaries of the retina, sometime may lead to loss of vision. Symptoms in the earlier stages may include reduced vision, changes in the size of objects, contraction of the visual field or photophobia. It typically takes between 10-13 years for diabetic retinopathy. Arteriosclerosis (vessel disease) : The diabetic condition is allied with earlier and more severe vascular alterations than normally arise at a given age. Atherosclerosis can be precisely described as the end stage of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, as the vast majority of diabetics will die from an atherosclerotic event. Nephropathy (kidney disease) : Nephropathy is less frequent than retinopathy and occurs in long standing diabetes. Nevertheless, diabetes is the foremost cause of end-stage renal disease in the world. So, a diabetes patient needs not only the blood sugar levels monitoring but also periodic monitoring of kidney function like blood urea nitrogen, uric acid, creatinine and creatinine clearance. Hypoglycemia : Hypoglycemia occurs due to administration of too much insulin or oral hypoglycaemic drugs. This condition is commonly referred to as insulin shock. The first symptom is mild hunger, swiftly followed by sweating, dizziness, mental confusion, palpitations and eventual loss of consciousness. Digestive Disorders : ulcers, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, gallstones, diverticulitis and symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. Oral Complications : Periodontal disease which can lead to tooth loss. Infections : diabetic patients have an increased risk of some infections like lower extremity infections, asymptomatic bacteriuria, surgical wounds infections, re-activation tuberculosis and group B streptococcal infection. Complications of Pregnancy Ketoacidosis: Another acute complication more expected to occur in the IDDM is ketoacidosis, an acute life-threatening event caused by deficiency of insulin leading to a build-up of keto acids and ultimately in a diabetic coma.

Ayurveda and diabetes

Why diabetics need ayurveda Diabetes is a disease which affects the whole family directly or indirectly. So Adopting self care activities like healthy life style to avoid high risk behavior is advocated and this in turn can be achieved only through Ayurveda. In ancient Indian texts of Ayurveda preventive measures for diseases are well defined with scientific reasoning which include daily routine & Seasonal conduct , Importance of balanced diet, Exercise, Fasting , Proper sleep , Sexual abstinence etc. All these are very important for promotion of good health & preventing the disease. Ayurveda not merely is concerned with the management of diseases but also concerned to maximize the life span and provides optimal living .Because theobject of Ayurveda is to promote & preserve health in healthy individual & as well as to treat the diseased person. Right life style does not mean suppressing our genetic nature (Prakriti) but maintaining our primary life sources (Tridoshas) in balanced state, which are the main causatives of disease occurrence. Ayurveda has a lot in this regard its concepts & theories are unique which are very important in preventing the non communicable diseases with common

causative factors like diabetes, heart disease, obesity & hypertension etc. Due to improper knowledge regarding the disease patient tend to develop negative attitude so further creates problems in the management of disease. Thus people need proper information about prevention, early detection & management of the disease. Hence Madhumeha trust (India) has started Diabetic Education Program for the welfare of diabetics. We have also developed trusted pure herbal safe nontoxic formulations and software at Singhal Diabetic Clinic Haridwar, which provides complete care for all diabetics with the concepts of this holistic system of medicine i.e. Ayurveda.

Why Herbal Drug Single Herb or a combination with or without metal/minerals are commonly used against Diabetes (Acquired & congenital) from Vedic Era evidences are documented in Ay. Texts. Our ancient Sears also identified its degenerative nature and complication, So they mentioned some very special herbal formulations against it, and found after long clinical experimental researches that diabetes is curable by Herbs and also described the symptoms of Diabetes free patients. Now a day the role of herbs in Diabetes is a controversial issue. But every Diabetic try an Ayurvedic recipe in his life time for the same. If a person gets balance formulation after sinchronization of his constitutional(genetic) nature and disease nature, gives best results to control blood sugar level and feel better in his total physiology because herbs are very near to our body constitution, climatic & geographical conditions so gives total therapeutic effects and feeling of well being. Mode of action of herbal drugs Mode of action of herbal drugs is very complex, and not known competely till date. But some reserche work shown that these drugs are insulin sensitisers and improve the quality and secretion of insulin, simultaneously increases the activity of liver secretions, and reduced the blood sugar level through oxidative mechanism after increases glucose utilisation As a result Herbal drugs provides Good control in 57% newly diagnosed Diabetic, 26% in known Diabetic and more than 64% with combination therapy (Modern OHGA) in NIDDM, while it successfully cuts some units of Insulin in IDDM. Uses & Administration of Herbal drug Herbal combinations can be started when Diet and Exercise fails to control hyperglycemia in NIDDM. By these combinations, obese NIDDM reports a significant reduction in excess weight. The effect of these drugs are also beneficial with modern OHGA. Combination Therapy The rationale for this combination is based on the different sites of action of two different kinds of drugs and the possibility of obtaining additive or potentiating effect and reduces side effects . combination therapy also reduces the insulin requirement upto 22% and may be an appropriate treatment regimen in NIDDM. Herbal combination with OHGA The combination provides satisfactory glycaemic control for years together and can successfully postpone insulin therapy ,by reducing average blood glucose up to 52% (320 mg% to 115 mg%). Herbs combinations with Insulin Herbal drugs increases the sensitivity of liver to insulin and reduction in Insulin requirement in IDDM (Adult) but should not tried below the age of 16 years because results in this age group are not established till date. Other properties of these drugs are as under -

Simple to use & fully effective orally. Shows optimum therapeutic effects with in 7 to 10 days. Never produces bouts of hypoglycemia. Practically nontoxic, can be used for any duration of time.

Successfully reduces the clinical adverse effects of modern OHGA. Improves feeling of well being. Dose of modern OHGA can be withdrawn gradually in NIDDM. Intelligent administration of herbal combination can cut some units of insulin also.

Insulin dependent obese diabetics can be switched over on OHGA with herbal drugs. Benefits of Combination Therapy If herbal drugs added with any Anti Diabetic drug either OHGA or Insulin, it enhances the effect of same drug, and maintain the glycaemic control through out the day. Metabolic Benefit -

Combination therapy decrease the fasting & Post parandial sugar level. Decrease in Hepatic glucose output Decrease FFA Effect to the count down phenomena Reduce the dose of OHGA.

Herbs can successfully push back Diabetic complication of different degree. Even newly diagnosed Diabetics (II nd type) can be successfully cured (if having no family history of Diabetes with herbal drugs & methodology. But our clinical experience is entirely different, New Diabetic never approaches an qualified Ayurvedist as he diagnosed first time. Inspite of consulting the Doctor, Patient generally follow the opinion & advise of his friends, relatives or colleagues or goes for unauthentic miraculous herbal recipes from Sadhu- Mahatma, Pansari, other unqualified fellows and quacks etc. those having no scientific explanations, simultaneously they dont know the type and severity of this complex disease. So you are advised finally always remember the Mukul Mantra DEED, try to know much more about disease and adopt harmless scientific. therapy from qualified Doctor.
