The Company filed Chapter 11 and eventually went out. As Vice President of Distribution, I managed a single 800,000 square foot, autom ated DC servicing 30 stores producing almost $900 million in sales volume. The h igh-value service facility processed all small and big-ticket goods for the divi sion in a strict, floor-ready condition. Approximately 450 associates were emplo yed across two and a half shifts: * Best cost percent to sales improvement in the Corporation. * Identified and implemented projects that generated over $800,000 in annual exp ense savings. 09/1978 - 12/1993 Roses Stores, Inc., Senior Vice President Henderson, North Carolina ` As Senior Vice President of Distribution, and a member of Rose's Executive Commi ttee, I managed the Company's distribution function to support 250 discount stor es in 12 states doing $1.2 billion in sales volume. The distribution function in cluded managing the operation of a relatively large private fleet, responsibilit y for all domestic and international transportation services, and management of a single, one million square foot, highly automated distribution center. The Com pany filed Chapter 11 and eventually went out. Major successes were:

* Shrinkage was reduced $900,000 at cost. * Productivity was improved by 30% and accuracy was improved to 99.8%. * Implemented standards at the team level for all significant work functions and pay for performance programs for all distribution associates. * Implemented one of the industry's first full-line, third party Central Return Centers servicing the entire chain -- the operation saved the Company over $1 mi llion per year. * Led a cross-functional team in establishing a comprehensive merchandise flow p rogram that established the optimum flow option for each class of product -- the program saved the Company $900,000 in net product costs in the first year in ad dition to substantially reducing inventory carrying costs. * Designed the conceptual framework for quadrupling the Company's repack through put while doubling the productivity of the operation then in place -- the projec t was designed to take $15 million of inventory out of the system and minimize t he extra cost and inefficiency characteristic of vendor service programs existin g at the time. * Beat all cost center budgets by a minimum of 10% each year.
