As Command ing Officer of a Naval Aviation Squadron, a Naval Surface Combatant and a 7-ship Expeditionary Strike Group, supervised pre-deployment maintenance evolutions, t raining exercises and personnel management. Led these units on subsequent succe ssful operational deployments to combat areas. Strategic Planner: Planned and managed the transition of 5 Carrier Strike Group s and 5 Expeditionary Strike Groups into a new training methodology in preparati on for deployments, ensuring the highest levels of training and readiness. As a senior Pacific Fleet Operations authority, planned current and future PACFLT re sponses to theater-wide operational and contingency scenarios. Program Manager: As a Commander of three separate Naval units, was responsible for the design, installation, operational evaluation and use of Navigation, Avia tion and General shipboard systems. This culminated in a 5.5 million dollar over haul of a major U.S. Naval Combatant ship/Strike Group. Ensured all installatio n projects were on time and on budget resulting in an early return to at-sea ope rations. Also, managed all technical requirements on a major aircraft acquisiti on program as Class Desk Officer at Naval Air Systems Command, Washington D.C. Exercise Manager: As Director for Operations for Commander U. S. Pacific Fleet, coordinated over 130 joint/combined exercises annually to include the multi-nat ional Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) which included over 13 nations Naval Forces. L ed Phoenix Express exercise coordinating the efforts of 9 Navies bordering the M editerranean Sea. Planned, supervised and led a complex exercise with Canadian Naval Forces to explore various Naval Amphibious operations, which proved to Can adian leadership that the Canadian Navy can execute a variety of amphibious exer cises and missions to include Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operat ions. As Commanding Officer of USS BATAAN (LHD-5), earned an award from Commander Atlantic Fleet for Retention. Consistently accomplished missions /goals by consensus building and enthusiastic execution. Work Experience June 2007 to Present---Senior Instructor and Course Developer for the U.S. Navys Center for Asymmetric Warfare (a division of the Naval Post Graduate School): Responsible for the Martin R. Travelled extensively to naval commands across multiple theaters to present the course to support Naval readiness. This has enabled many Naval commands to effectively ma nage a variety of crises in both the military arena and natural disasters unique to the geographic location of the command. June 2005 to May 2007---Commander Nassau Expeditionary Strike Group/Commander Am phibious Squadron Six: Responsible for all facets of command and control of 7 U.S. Naval ships, 28 embarked Marine Corps Aircraft and over 5500 Naval and Mari ne Corps personnel. Also responsible for the fiscal management, maintenance, co mbat readiness, safety and training exercises. Successfully moved the embarked Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) ashore in support of combat operations in Iraq. Planned and led the Nassau Strike Group in ground-breaking anti-piracy operati ons off the Somali Coast. In two separate instances captured over 20 pirates and liberated an Indian flagg ed vessels crew. Captured pirates were interned in Kenya and the Indian crew wer e successfully escorted to their homeport in India. December 2002 to May 2005---Director for Fleet Operations, U. S. Pacific Fleet: Responsible for current and future fleet operational employment, combat readines s, exercises, warfare requirements and anti-terrorism/force protection (ATFP) fo r over 200 ships, 2000 aircraft, 38 shore installations and 225,000 Sailors and Marines in the Pacific Fleet. Voice of the Fleet Commander during non-duty hour s. Constant contact and participation with Fleet Commander and senior command s taff to make critical operational decisions. Represented Pacific Fleet in worki ng/planning/coordinating with US PACIFIC COMMAND, other service components in th eater, and other US Naval commands. June 2001 to November 2002---Commanding Officer, USS BATAAN (LHD-5): Responsible for Command and operational employment of this major Naval Surface Combatant and the 1100 embarked Sailors and Marines. Also responsible for fisca l management, maintenance, and training exercises. Deployed immediately after 9 /11 inserting the embarked Marines 700 miles into Afghanistan while conducting o ver 2000 accident free, combat flights in support of Marines ashore. February 1997 to May 2001---Various U.S. Navy Leadership positions ashore and af loat. As Operations Officer of USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN-74), 1997-98, conducted over 20,000 incident free carrier aircraft launches and recoveries during a 6 m onth deployment to the Arabian Gulf. As Assistant Chief of Staff U. S. Atlantic Fleet Commander Naval Air Forces for Carrier Air Wing Training and Readiness, 1 998-99, oversaw funding and training of 5 Carrier Air Wings. Identified and for mulated corrective action to manning and aircraft shortfalls of 6 Fleet Readines s Squadrons, increasing student throughput by over 25%. Managed and executed th e 100 million dollar Naval Air Forces Flying Hour Program. As Executive Officer of USS BATAAN (LHD-5), 2000-01, managed the administration of ships personnel, performance of training evolutions and operations.
