PHAM THU TRANG

MSc International Business- Robert Gordon University

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Since I was young, I have always been interested in communicating with people from various backgrounds and working in multi-national organizations when growing up.

However, working in such environments brings not only fun and exploration but troubles and inconvenience as well. Some methods and attitudes are appreciated in one nation but prohibited in another one. The biggest contrast can be seen when comparing the working routine in Western companies to Asian ones. After 2 years of working for organizations originated from the West, I was accustomed to having my works under my autonomy. However, when I moved to a Korean company, each and every progress of my work needs to be reported and reviewed by the Director. This sudden change caught me with many difficulties, making me struggle at the beginning. As I got used to it and found its own pros and cons, I recommended my Director that if staffs have more control over their own tasks; they will have more responsibilities and motivation to complete them with the best results. After being applied, this adjustment has been paid off with initial positive feedbacks.

The obstacles originated from the cultural differences- as I mention above- will occur frequently in my career, therefore, I want to carefully prepare myself to avoid accidental shocks.

After much consideration, I believe that taking part in the Master course in International Business at Robert Gordon University is a great way to support and fulfill my goal. However, coming from a developing country, I have some difficulties funding my study and living cost in UK. Therefore, I would highly appreciate if I could get a scholarship to relieve my financial burden, at the same time create better conditions for me to focus on my study and contribute to the community after graduation.
