POLITICAL PARTIES
A political party is often a group of like minded individuals who believe in the same cause and work hard to promote their beliefs. These people form a group/faction/cluster and that is called as a party, before they can officially be called national party they have to contest elections, file nominations, give affidavits to the election commission and finally get at least 6% of total votes polled in lok sabha elections or 6% of total votes polled in legislative assembly in four states and also win 10 seats in the lok sabha.

In 2006, India had 6 political parties namelyI.

Bharatiya Janata Party <BJP>

II.Indian National Congress <INC> III.Bahujan Samj Party <BSP> IV.Communist Party Of India (Marxist) <CPI(M)> V. Communist Part Of India <CPI> VI.National Congress Party <NCP>

Bharatiya Janata Party

BJP was formed out of an old and dying Bharatiya Jana sangh in 1980; its founding members included the former prime minister and former deputy prime minister atal bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna advani respectively. BJP mainly followed center-rightist policy, which was basically a hybrid of ancient cultural values and modern ideology. The BJP has gone through lot ups and downs, From having to form a government which lasted only 13 days, the next time they came to power it was for 13 months but finally in 1999 BJP led NDA managed to last one whole term in the center.

Indian national congress

Also known as the Grand old party of the country, it was established in 1885 and has under gone a lot of divisions Giving birth to parties like NCP, TMC who now play a major role in the national politics. It has had several famous leader like Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal bahadur shastri, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi whose careers have spanned over decades had insured that the party remained on the top. Although after 1989 its support decilined as india was going through a economic depression.

Bahujan Samaj Party

BSP is a centrist national political party in India with socialist leanings. It was formed to chiefly represent Bahujans (literally meaning "People in majority"), referring to people from the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Castes (OBC) as well as minorities. The party claims to be inspired by the philosophy of B. R. Ambedkar. The BSP was founded by the high-profile, charismatic leader Kanshi Ram in 1984, who was succeeded by Mayawati in 2003. The party's political symbol is an Elephant. In the 15th Lok Sabha the party has 21 members, making it the 4th-largest party. The BSP has its main base in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

Communist party of India (Marxist)

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (abbreviated CPI(M) or CPM) is a leftwing Marxist political party in India. It has a strong presence in the states of Kerala ,West Bengal and Tripura. As of 2011, CPI(M) is leading the state government in Tripura. It leads the Left Front coalition of leftist parties in various states and the national parliament. The party emerged out of a split from the Communist Party of India in 1964. CPI(M) claimed to have 1,042,287 members in 2009.[2] The CPI(M) strongly

advocates anti-capitalism, anti-globalization and anti-American and has always uphold the principal of Marxist philosophy.

National congress party

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) (Marathi: ) is a centre to centre left political party primarily based in the state of Maharashtra, India. NCP was formed on 25 May 1999, by Sharad Pawar, P. A. Sangma, and Tariq Anwar after they were expelled from the Indian National Congress (INC) on 20 May 1999, for disputing the right of Italian-born Sonia Gandhi to lead the party.[1] At the time of formation, the party also absorbed Indian Congress (Socialist), which traced its origins to anti-coalition partner in the state of Maharashtra in alliance with INC.

Communist party of India

The Communist Party of India was founded in December1925 to be a part of the nations freedom struggle and also to envision a socialist India. The fusion of militant anti-imperialist patriotism and internationalism, of the struggle for national liberation and the class struggle for socialism led to the party's creation. CPI has also been a part of the Left Frront government in West Bengal, Tripura and intermittently in Kerala in the last

20 years. In Tamil Nadu it is part of the Progressive Democratic Alliance.
