Welcome to 2012!!!!
Its here! 2012 has arrived! What a sporting year it promises to be both internationally, nationally and locally! It really is the biggest year for sport at Stretford High School in a generation and possibly in a life time! Work is coming on superbly on the Stretford Sports Village project and a summer opening is still on track. Then of course its London 2012! The opportunity to be in a host country during and Olympics and Paralympics, is very often a once in a lifetime chance and should be savoured. Also in 2012 lets look forward to; the climax of the Football season, can LCCC defend their crown as champions, Salford take on Super League in the new stadium, then there is the Golf Masters, Euro 2012, Wimbledon, 6 Nations, the list goes on!!!! Not to mentionSHS Sports Day 2012!!! July 12th at Longford Park! Athletics come home!

MONDAY Handball Gym

What is your interest in Sport?? I do a sports coaching degree and love being part of the P.E team at Stretford High. I play rugby league for a local ladies team, and i love watching Salford Reds and my favourite team Wigan Warriors, i also coach girls rugby after school club. What are you most looking forward to about London 2012? The determination and talent at the paraolympics, watching how dedicated and passionate the athletes are is amazing. I'm really excited to hopefully watch England do really well in the cycling and i have tickets to watch the football at Manchester United. What is your favourite Olympic memory? Chris Hoy bringing home 3 gold medals from the Beijing Olympics. Usain Bolt winning the 100 meters and broke the world record!!

Antonio Valencia is Utds Ecuadorian midfielder, and obviously is a Spanish Speaker! His story is an amazing one. His is from a rainforest village and he used to sell water outside the stadium of El Nacional in Quito. A scout spotted him playing in bare feet and he left home to play for his boyhood heros without telling his dad! Via Wigan he is now here!

Badminton Boys dominate Trafford!!!!

SHS has always been a hotbed of Badminton talent and that continued just before Christmas with the Year 11 Team winning the Trafford Boys Championships. Deiago Merdono, Yusif Shakanti, Abdu Shariffe, and Tom Wright defeated Wellacre and Urmston Grammar in the group phase before thrashing Broadoak in the final to win in style and with room to spare. They now go onto the Manchester games on Feb 7th to try make the EBA finals.

Dance Fever is gripping Stretford High School!!! Boys and Girls have been doing Dance recently in KS3 lessons and the Dance BTEC is running superbly. We hope to run GCSE Dance next year so if you are in Year 9 and are interested, see your PE teacher! The School Sports Partnership took a huge leap forward with a meeting that created a matrix of events for 2012. Run by Miss Galvin with Go 5 Sports Leaders our 5 primary families and invited other schools will take part in our program of sports. See Miss Galvin if you want to be involved. We might be in the middle of winter but the sound of leather on willow is on its way! Indoor Cricket Starts soon! Derek Morgan from Sport Trafford will be taking sessions in half term 3 and getting students ready for a program of Indoor tournaments. Howzat!!!!
