If you are upgrading an x86 version of StuffIt 2010 from 14.0 to 14.0.1A, you will first need to uninstall StuffIt using Add/Remove Progams in Window's Control Panel. Please see the Known Issues section below for more information. When the installation has finished, the StuffIt Configuration Wizard will launch - Follow the prompts - Enter your Serial Number when prompted Note: StuffIt Windows serial numbers begin with "WSDJ" - Enter your Contact Information - Set the File Associations - decide which file types will be opened by StuffIt - Optionally create a StuffIt icon on your Desktop - Enable and Configure SmartSend. SmartSend is a new feature that automatically routes large files to a File Host rather than attaching them to an outbound email message. Your recipient will receive a download link to the file. It is enabled by default. - First, set the SmartSend file size limit. The default is 5 MB. - You can also use File Types as a condition to determine whether to attach or

upload. For example, your ISP may block self-extracting archives (.exe), or Zip archives (.zip). You can opt to route these files through your selected File Host. - Next, select your File Host. StuffIt supports both FTP and StuffIt Connect as File Host options. A one year subscription to the StuffIt Connect File Host service is included with your StuffIt Deluxe purchase. Note: If you do not have a Deluxe serial number, or an account on an FTP server, you should disable the SmartSend feature. When the StuffIt Configuration Wizard has finished, StuffIt will start a background scan to locate archives on your machine for easy access within Archive Manager. Click the "Tutorial" button on the Start Page, or refer to the Help menu for further assistance and enjoy StuffIt! Installing StuffIt Plugins for Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office - Click the Install "StuffIt Plug-ins for Microsoft Office and Photoshop" button at the main screen that appears when you insert your CD. If you've purchased StuffIt Deluxe online, the plugins are a separate download. Locate and double-click the StuffIt Plugins installer The installer will launch - Follow the prompts When the installer has finished, launch Microsoft Office or Adobe Photoshop and check the Help menu for further assistance using the StuffIt Plugins. Known Issues - Upgrading from v14.0.1 to v14.0.1A: * The only changes between 14.0.1 and 14.0.1A are in the x86 version of the Installer. The application version is the same (14.0.1.27) in both releases. If you are using Windows XP and have already installed the update to StuffIt 2010 (v14.0.1), the 14.0.1A installer will run fine without errors. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you will be prompted to Repair/Modify/Remove the existing 14.0.1 installation before proceeding. Choose the Remove option. - Upgrading from v14.0 to v14.0.1: * The 14.0.1 installer can not update a 14.0 installation directly. The 14.0 version must be uninstalled via Add/Remove Programs first. After removing v14.0, the 14.0.1 installer will require your Serial Number. You should write down your Serial Number before uninstalling. * Uninstalling v14.0 will remove any custom compression Droplets and Profiles. * After uninstalling/reinstalling, the StuffIt icons for supported archives may not come back until you log out/in or restart. Other Known Issues - Disk Burning: When using disk-burning functions, make sure a writable disk is in your diskburning drive. - WinZip archives: StuffIt does not support WinZip archives with the ".zipx" extension. There

are also archives created by some versions of WinZip that have the ".zip" extension, but use nonstandard compression methods. These archives are not supported. They are incompatible with most zip utilities. - The Archive Manager Data Base is Empty: When you first install StuffIt, a background task is started to create the initial database. Depending on how many hard drives you have attached to your computer, this may take some time to complete. During the initial scan you may find that Archive Manager does not list any archives. Typically, the list will be refreshed with all your existing archives when you next launch the StuffIt application. Any new archives you create, download, or otherwise copy onto your computer will be immediately available. Changes in v14.0.1A * The only changes between 14.0.1 and 14.0.1A are in the x86 version of the Installer. - For x86 systems, when installing v14.0.1 over v14.0, the installer would fail and give the user no notification. The updated installer will prompt the user to uninstall v14.0 before running the v14.0.1A installer. - In v14.0 and v14.0.1, if you registered a trial version, the about box incorrectly showed "Serial Number: Trial Version". Now it will show the actual serial number. - In v14.0 and v14.0.1, the About box graphic would intermittently still show "Trial version" even after the product was registered. Changes in v14.0.1 - Added French, German, and Japanese localizations - Corrected an issue with the StuffIt X format's BWT compression option. In v14.0, selecting this option in the Advanced Format Settings dialog would result in our older, Backwards Compatible, version of the algorithm to be used, regardless of the Backwards Compatibility setting. In v14.0.1, selecting this option will now use the newer, better performing version of our BWT algorithm, unless the Backwards Compatibility option is also selected. Troubleshooting Tips If you have difficulties with any StuffIt Deluxe or the StuffIt Plugins. Try uninstalling the StuffIt Plugins, then uninstalling StuffIt using the "Add or Remove Programs" option. Then install StuffIt Deluxe first. When the installation is complete, then install the StuffIt Plugins.
