What is the Great Commission?

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Mt 28:18-20 Commission is the mission resulting and ensuing from a commandment and authority. It is great if not the greatest of all tasks. We are in a command. We are in His labor. We are His co-workers. His command is our mission. We are called in authority to act in His behalf. We are granted power to perform such acts. We are called to act in a prescribed manner. We are given duties to fulfill such commission. A possible mission given to His people for the One who has commanded is the Lord who has all the authority in heaven and in earth- to make disciples of all the nations.

Authority coming from the Master Authority speaks of ability, right, power and influence. Our mandate therefore comes from Him who is above all and through whom all things were made. From the Creator authorizing us to represent Him in this world. Sharing to us His ability, right, power and influence. No one can hinder us from this calling for He is above all powers and dominion. What a great task we are given of.

Direct command from the Master

A direct command of the Master to His servants. It is borne out of our experiential and relational knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. After that He has saved us, forgiven, washed and justified we are directed and commanded. It is when we are healed that we give praise. It is when we are forgiven that we are humbled. It is when we met and knew the Master that He says, Go. Go We become His witnesses. Go. Speak up. Walk and talk. We bear witness of the gospel, His death and resurrection- the good news of salvation in Christ Jesus. After the Holy Spirit has come to us we shall be His witnesses in our homes, family, relatives, neighbors, cities and beyond. They have to hear Him and about Him. God justifies all that shall have faith in the Son through the gospel. For whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved. How can they call upon Him whom they have not heard? How can they hear if no one shall go? Make Disciples We are not done in ones salvation. The new believer has to be strong and mature in the Lord bearing fruit, faith, good works and light. A disciple is one who is firm in the faith, unmoved, stable and filled with the knowledge of the will of God pleasing Him in all aspects. A disciple is someone who is like his leader who produces somebody like him. He becomes like Christ. He multiplies. We make disciples. We teach and train. The command was to make disciples. We make them. We are Gods co-laborers. Of All Nations The sphere and dominion of our calling is great. God wanted all men to be saved. We must see and look in Gods eyes. He wants us to move on. Spread. Move forward. Conquer and destroy the works of darkness in the Name of Jesus and through His blood. Bringing souls unto the Kingdom. The knowledge of salvation shall come unto the whole earth. It is done through us the church- His called out ones, His saints. Baptizing After repentance and the profession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, after they have known the salvation in Him alone we are to baptize them. Identifying themselves in the Lords death, burial and resurrection. He died so we shall live. He died and we die with Him leaving behind the old self, the old sinful life and as He was raised up we too shall walk in the newness of life. We are buried with Him through baptism and raised up with Him. We baptized them confirming that they have been already forgiven, washed and justified through the blood of the Lamb and was given new birth through His resurrection.

Teaching

The great commission was not only to bring salvation unto men through the gospel but to build them up, encourage, strengthen unto the holy temple of the Lord. We are His building His church built up to give Him praise, honor and glory. Teaching them. Coaching them. Instructing them in the ways of the Lord. We are building churches in all places. Planting and sowing. Teaching them the word and the will of God.

Observe Nothing is more rewarding with the Lords servants to see His people walking in the Light. As children of Light we are separated from the world. We are not of this world for our translation and transformation were not of this world. Faith and obedience are signs of a true disciple. Continuity and keeping and holding unto our faith unto the end is Gods calling and will to His people. All the Master has commanded Jesus said, If you continue in my word you are My disciples indeed and you will know the truth and the truth shall set you free. Jesus is not our Lord of all if we have not surrendered all to Him. All that He has commanded we are to observe. He is the first and not the last in our choices. Being filled with all His will through the teaching of the Word of God, the saints are to walk in the manner He has walked. Our goal is to imitate Christ and to be like Christ. He is with us always This is the security. This is His seal of assurance, protection, power and authority. He shall never leave us nor forsake us. He is with us. In fact Christ is in us. The Father, the Son and His Spirit dwelled in us. If God is with us who can be against us? He who is the Almighty from whom all authority in heaven and earth is given has called us, sent us, and commanded us to go, to make disciples of all nations and to teach them to observe all that He has commanded. He is with us from the beginning unto the end. He is with us from the first day of our going out unto the last day of age and unto the day of His coming.

FRUIT OF the Great Commission

1. Converts :Salvation of the people (1Cor 16:15) 2. Disciples: Becoming mature and Christ-like (Jn 8:31) 3. Workers: Bearing fruit in the Kingdom (Lk 10:2)
In the great commission we are to focus in these three areas to gauge and know the parameters where we are in. Have we been moving forward? Are we stuck to truth number one. Number three is the end of our mission- that is they bear fruit in the Kingdom of God. And their fruit shall remain steadfast and firm. Multiplying all the more.
