How to describe a Figure?

## what does it show? what is x and y axis, why ranged so and what are the units and why? ## are the units and symbols are consistent all the way? ## how did u get the y as a function of x? Can you make it non-dimensional? ## from basic understanding, did u expect this? ## any sharp change of anything, why, how do u justify? ## for comparison, amount of difference in y as u increase x? ## did anyone find the same or different, how much different and on what conditions? ## what the assumptions for ur x y plot? ## what are the assumptions of someone else plots? ## why couldn't you compare and do the same assumption and see the results? ## why do we believe your results? ## what is the industrial implications of your plots? ## can you link your figure with any other figures of yours? ## can you link your figure with any other figures of others? can u show here? ## why do u show this figure? are you wasting our time? ## can u show or refer to any equations or analytical models or numerical models which u solved to get them? ## can u refer to the expt data (if any) and limitations of the experiment? ## can u refer to the uncertainty of the results or someone else results? ## are you repeating some results which have been published many times and u r copying the idea? what for?

## to understand the whole thing of the subject, what more results to see? whats next to see, raise the hungriness! ## what the facial value of the plots? is it following a rule? best fitted? best fitted from a model? ## what does the figure tells the reader indirectly? does it speak the truth or in line of someone doing the similar thing or contradicts? ## if your figure type is not shown before by anyone, may be it does not have any value? justify. ## can u put some % difference and why this difference? your limitations? confess it! Others limitation? don't be brutal! ## can you refer to table/equations/test case number in the figure. ## Can you divide a figure and make more than one? for simplicity? ## can you merge more than one figures and make a unique one? ## to understand the whole thing of the subject, what more results to see? ## can u digitize others data, rather put side by side to compare? ## were you misguided by any of the researchers (avoid your SV!) during finding this results? be nice! ## what were the major challenge to find the plots/solutions? how did u overcome it? ## did you use any efficient technique to find the solutions/plots? how do I know? in terms of computations/experiments? ## from academic point of view, whats the use of ur plots? ## from the national/international funding/research direction: whats the use of your plots? Did I make you life difficult? Sorry. Who said you can't describe a figure? You are a guru now! AP Nurul Hasan Head, Advanced Simulation Lab, docnurulhasan@gmail.com
