Masters Programmes At the time of application, applicants should possess a Bachelors Degree or its equivalent from a recognized Institution in the relevant field of study. Preference will be given to applicants with a FIRST CLASS, SECOND CLASS (UPPER OR LOWER DIVISION) ii. Ph.D Programmes Candidates applying for Doctor of Philosophy degree must have a Masters degree or its equivalent from a recognized Institution and shall submit evidence of adequate training and ability to undertake the proposed programme. DURATION OF PROGRAMME Unless otherwise stated, a. Masters Programmes (Full-Time) are of Two (2) Academic Years and (Part-Time) Three (3) Academic Years duration. b. Ph.D Programmes (Full-Time) are of Three (3) Academic Years and (Part-Time) are of Four (4) Academic Years duration. 1

Sale of scratch cards and application materials shall commence on Wednesday 4th of January 2012 . In addition to the general entry requirements of the School of Graduate Studies, candidates with first class degrees in Agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, Biological/Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Agro-Forestry and Postharvest Technology may be considered. Candidates with first degrees in Architecture, Planning, Geography, Fine Art, Civil Engineering and Building Technology may also be considered for programmes in Landscape Studies only. Candidates with third class or second class lower division degrees will not be considered.

Admission Requirements A BSc degree with a 1st class or 2nd class upper division. Candidates with 2nd lower division may be considered after an interview or must demonstrate considerable experience in research in the relevant field. Preferred disciplines are in Fisheries, Aquaculture, Biological Sciences or relevant aspects of Agriculture.

Department of Modern Languages M.Phil French Admission Requirements Candidate must hold a good 1st degree in French (2nd Class Lower Division or better or a Postgraduate Qualification relevant to the area of study) from a recognised university. In addition, candidates will be required to pass a written examination and interview. Ph.D French Admission Requirements Candidate must hold a Masters degree in French from a recognised University and must submit a research proposal acceptable to the Postgraduate Coordinating Team. In addition, candidates will be required to pass a selection interview. 3. Department of English M.Phil (in literature) Admission Requirements For admission into the MPhil programme, an applicant should have graduated in English major with at least a Second Class Lower Division degree. All applicants have to pass an interview. In addition, applicants with a Second Class Lower Division have to pass a written examination before selection for the interview. Duration 5.

The duration is two years; one year for taught courses and seminars, and another year for research towards a final dissertation.

Ph.D (in literature) Admission Requirements For admission into the PhD programme, an applicant should possess an MA or MPhil in English. In addition, candidates in the Departments MPhil programme, who perform well in their first year of course work, may be recommended by the Department for transfer to the PhD programme. Duration The duration is three years: one year for course work, and two years for research towards a final dissertation. 4. Department of Geography and Rural Development (a) M.Phil

Admission Requirement A good first degree in Geography. A Second Class (Upper Division) is preferred. Candidates shall be selected at a selection interview. A synopsis of their proposed thesis is a requirement. (b) PhD Admission Requirements Candidates shall possess an MA or MPhil. Candidates shall be selected at a selection interview. Admission Requirements: MPhil A candidate must have obtained a good first degree (Second Class Upper division) in either Religious Studies or Theology from a recognised University or accredited Theological Seminary/Institution. A Candidate with the Social Sciences or Humanities background must in addition at least have a Diploma in Theology from a recognised/accredited Bible College or Seminary. Candidates shall be selected at a selection interview. M.Phil: These programmes are offered to students with or without architecture background, after obtaining a first undergraduate degree. Admission to these programmes may be preceded by an interview.

M.Sc - Procurement Management Admission Requirements Candidates must hold a Bachelors degree (with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division) in Architecture, Building Technology, Quantity Surveying Civil Engineering, Land Economy and Business Administration (with at least 2yrs working experience). Candidates must attend an interview session and pass the interview before admission. MPhil (Building Technology) Admission Requirements Candidates must hold a Bachelors degree (with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division) in Architecture, Building Technology, Quantity Surveying and Civil Engineering. Candidates must have a minimum of two years relevant industrial or research experience Candidates must attend an interview session and pass the interview before admission Candidates must submit a suitable proposal and workable programme that fit into the construction industry and acceptable to the Departmental Board.

MSc. Architecture Students who have completed the Postgraduate Diploma (or higher) in Architecture and related fields of study from accredited/government recognized university will be admitted into the programme. a. Students must demonstrate relevant experiences as well as the capacity for undertaking advanced academic study with at least an Undergraduate and Postgraduate cumulative weighted average in architectural (or related fields) studies of at least 60 percent. b. Three letters of recommendation from three previous faculty and/or members of the profession are required. c. Portfolio of architectural studies (or related fields) works. d. In addition to these requirements, all applicants must pass an interview by a panel from the Departmental Board. 2. Department of Building Technology M.Sc - Construction Management

Admission Requirements Candidates must hold a Bachelors degree (with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division) in Architecture, Building Technology, Quantity Surveying and Civil Engineering. Candidates must have a minimum of two years relevant industrial or research experience. Candidates must attend an interview session and pass the interview before admission.

PhD (Building Technology) Admission Requirements A candidate shall hold a Masters degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution in Architecture, Building Technology, Quantity Surveying and Civil Engineering. A candidate who holds a Bachelors degree (with a minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division) in Architecture, Building Technology, Quantity Surveying and Civil Engineering shall 7

Department of Planning may have to do extra work to meet graduation requirements. Duration is three (3) years. M.Phil in Development Studies/M.Phil in Planning: candidates with a bachelors degree in the second class upper division and above in a relevant subject acceptable to the Departmental Board. Candidates with a bachelors degree in the Second Class Lower Division in relevant subject may be admitted after passing an interview. In addition to the above, candidates for admission must have at least two years relevant field or practical experience. MSc. Development Planning and Management (SPRING) and MSc. Development Policy and Planning (i) The programme is open to planners, managers and administrators from Africa who hold a Bachelors degree in the 1st or 2nd Class (Upper/Lower Division) or its equivalent in Planning, Agriculture, Architecture, Economics, Engineering, Geography, Sociology, Social Studies, Integrated Development Studies, Land Economy, Administration, Agricultural Engineering, Environmental Studies and Natural Resource Management from institutions of recognised standing. (ii) Candidates must possess a high standard of proficiency in written and verbal English.

The admission into the PhD programme shall be deemed retrospective from the date of the original registration for the MPhil Programme. A candidate shall hold a Masters degree or its equivalent from a recognised institution and shall submit evidence of adequate training and ability to undertake the proposed programme. A Candidate who does not hold a Masters degree shall first register for a Masters degree by research. If he/she proves himself/herself to be of sufficient calibre by the end of the first year of the programme, he/she may be permitted by the Board, to register for the PhD degree. This registration shall be deemed retrospective from the date of the original registration for the Masters degree. A candidate who does not satisfy the requirement stated above but is otherwise adjudged suitable may be admitted. For the purpose of assessing his suitability, such a candidate may be interviewed or be required to take entrance examination, or both, as directed by the Board on the recommendation of the appropriate Department Board. A candidate may be required, on the recommendation of the Department concerned, to audit appropriate courses. Department of Molecular Medicine Laboratory work/research (A proof of funding is also required) M.Phil Chemical Pathology, Immunology Requirements: A good 1st class or 2nd (upper division) in Medical Laboratory Technology, Pharmacy, Human Biology and Herbal Medicine. The candidate should have a flair for Medical Laboratory work/research. PhD Chemical Pathology. A good degree in M.Phil Chemical Pathology or MSc Clinical Biochemistry in a recognized University. Prospective candidates should also show a proof of their source of funding and be successful at pre-admission interview. PhD Immunology. A good degree in M.Phil Biological Sciences/Biochemistry or MSc in Immunology or any of the Life Sciences in a recognized University. MPhil Human Anatomy and Cell Biology Programme A good 1st Class and 2nd (Upper Division) in Biological Sciences, Anatomy and Cell Biology, Medical Laboratory Technology, or related disciplines, MB.Ch.B or its equivalent from a recognised institution. The candidate should have a flare for laboratory work or research. Prospective candidates should also show proof of source of funding and be successful at a pre-admission interview. PhD in Human Anatomy and Cell Biology MSc/MPhil in Human Anatomy and Cell Biology, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognised university. The candidate should have a flare for laboratory work or research. Prospective candidates should also show a proof of their source of funding and be successful at pre-admission interview. MSc. Mortuary Science and Management First or Second Class (Upper Division) degree in Biological Sciences, Biomedical Science, Anatomy and Cell Biology, Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognised University. Admission Requirements The candidate must have a minimum of first degree in the Life Sciences or Chemistry on condition that the candidate will audit basic Biology/Biochemistry courses. In rare cases where the background is 11

lacking, the student must enroll in undergraduate classes first in order to make up the deficiencies. MSc. Biotechnology Admission Requirements Students applying for the programme should have adequate background in Biological Sciences/Biochemistry and/or in an appropriate related Sciences or Engineering such as Chemistry, Pharmacy, Agricultural Sciences, Chemical Engineering and Renewable Natural Resources. Students with little or no background in Biological Sciences would be expected to audit some undergraduate courses which should include at least two semesters of Cell Structure Plant and Animal Physiology, Genetics and Biophysics or Analytical Biochemistry as pre-requisites.

Prospective candidates in the following discipline are eligible to apply: BSc Food Science and Technology, BSc Food Science and Nutrition, BSc Biochemistry, BSc Biology, BSc Agric, BSc Natural Resources, BSc Chemistry, BSc Agricultural Engineering, BSc Chemical Engineering and all other BSc equivalent courses. Some candidates may audit some courses in BSc Food Science and Technology alongside the Post graduate courses. MSc Food Science and Technology Candidates for admission shall be required to have a BSc (Hons) degree in Nutrition, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Agricultural Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Natural Resources Management. Or Higher level professional qualifications or an advanced degree and relevant work experience in food related establishment could be considered where applicant is assessed individually on their own merit through interview. 2.
