What are some of the ways in which modern culture is fatalistic (in the ancient Greek sense of the word)? The Greeks viewed their Gods as unpredictable at best. In todays society many have replaced those Ancient Greek Gods with Politicians, believing in the dont make waves approach. Even going so far as accepting statements such as We will tell whats in this Bill after we sign it and it is passed. How much more fatalistic can you be than to accept something of that nature without reading and knowing the context. A Bill can change many lives in one stroke, just as Zeus could change many lives by choosing which ever urn according to his mood of the day. The same is true with a Bill. If the Congress mood is to pass then accept the consequences without prior investigation that is a fatalistic move and point of view. We elect on good faith, giving these people authority over us. Our desire is that these elected officials will work according to the Constitution, not change the Constitution to suit their own personal agendas. Just like the Greek Gods, many act in a capricious manner, choosing to please only themselves and those others in authority, just as some of the Gods would try to please each other, especially Zeus, lest he take away his power. Like the Greeks, our society has become complacent, choosing to live our lives in such a way as to not antagonize or come under the scrutiny of our government which is in authority over us. Our society accepts all forms of religions and worships many Gods. The overall acceptance and acknowledgement of these religions actually gives them credence, thereby, sentencing Christians to a fatalistic life. As Christians, we study the various religions so that we may understand them and give us an insight into their belief systems. This in no way changes our hearts, or our minds, however, society condemns our beliefs. Our goal is to spread the Word of God and bring as many as possible to Him; it is not to condemn those who do not believe. The fact that our society condemns our belief is our sentence to the fatalistic mentality of our culture.
