SUCCESS IS FOR EVERYBODY You know what you want your future to look like. And you know what it will take to get there. At George Brown College, our focus is on giving each student the real-world experience to make it happen We are committed to providing you with the skills and knowledge youll need to find success in increasingly diverse and globalized workplaces. http://www.georgebrown.ca/ SUCCESS IS FOR EVERYBODY, is a group of mature college students who are international students and immigrant people for whom this is their first international educational experience, as well as mature college Canadian students in their first educational experience in a post secondary school and allies. Being mature means a natural decrease in our physical and sometimes emotional capacities, which is increased by cultural factors. Being mature means sometimes it takes time to become effectively involved in academic experiences than young students do, due to a lack of familiarity with the rules and norms of post secondary institutions. Being mature means not to be as healthy as we want and sometimes sufferings chronic illnesses, or being in the process of recovering from cancer or other maladies; as it was detected from our survey, in which 20% of the mature students in George brown College who are currently in the first semester are facing

health problems in different degrees. However, we have dreams and they moved us to go through studies looking for a better future. We believe that being accepted into a college program without a period of adaptation exposes us to suffer the pressure of this particular educational environment at all levels. We are a multicultural population who sometimes has difficulties in our student-teacher and studentstudent relationships that make us to live under stress. Slowly, we realized that our intellectual and skills background is not enough for dealing with the daily tasks and assignments, regardless of whether we have diplomas, degrees, masters or any other certification back home. We need to be part of the work force and live with dignity. Many of us have worked in factories or places that only require our full physical energy. Regardless of whether we were physically or emotionally exhausted, at the end of the day, and we only got paid the minimum wage. At times, we had to work for cash, which means we were not insured and make use of our rights to Employment Insurance and other benefits established by law. Most of this work we never performed back home. In addition, for many of us, it is almost impossible to provide documents that testify us as having post secondary education, so we choose programs in which these documents are not a requirement. For our self esteem, it is a shame to fail in assignments that are probably simple for others students. We feel this oppression and stress on a daily basis, until we discover useful services available. Although these are not enough, because their scope is limited to English and Mathematics. In this way, our dreams fall, making our academic experiences worse. This is crucial for us.

SUCCESS IS FOR EVERYBODY fight for our right to go proudly, with dignity and respect through our studies and become as successful as any other student in Canada. SUCCESS IS FOR EVERYBODY works to make other students aware that we can study and we are on the path to reach our purpose of becoming academically qualified for being part of the globalized work place in Canada. SUCCESS IS FOR EVERYBODY works to make academic authorities aware of our struggle and how we are forced to face them in the midst of assignments and readings, because of the current circumstances. SUCCESS IS FOR EVERYBODY asks for supportive workshops, improvement of the tutoring services focused on us, so we can have extra support every time we need it. We want to be the ones who proudly represent our institution in the future, and we paid the fees for that.
