Henry Street Madison, WI 53703 January 26, 2012 Mary Backenger Miniature Precision Components 837 Walworth Street Walworth, WI 53184 Dear Ms. Backenger, I am seeking the opportunity to apply for an Engineering internship in Walworth, WI. As an engineering student at University of Wisconsin-Madison, I became aware of the position through our career services. I will graduate with a degree in Industrial Engineering in December 2013, and am currently seeking an internship that would allow me to work in the manufacturing sector. My studies have given me a more thorough understanding of subjects such as production and supply management and quality standards like ISO 9001. This knowledge, along with my determination, would benefit MPC by aiding in their commitment to continual improvement and customer satisfaction. My time at Madison has enabled me to build up my interest in and appreciation for the thought and planning that goes into the manufacturing process. As a requirement for Production Planning and Control my team and I were challenged to analyze a companys situation and effectively plan a plant and machine shop layout. In doing so I had to analyze effective space and machine utilization and identify the best scheduling system available. Another class, Quality Assurance Systems, focuses on quality standards and goes in depth more specifically on ISO 9000. Background with ISO standards could be a valuable asset in learning the ISO/TS 16949 system used in MPC plants. These or focused engineering classes along with my math and statistics heavy curriculum would be put to use when performing analysis and ensuring quality. Although not a technical job, my employment at the Winona Marina in Winona, MN taught me a good deal about both working with my hands and problem solving. My responsibilities included everything from helping on boat repairs to running the gas dock. It allowed me to gain experience with power tools and some heavier-duty equipment. My time at the Marina also taught me a good deal about how to communicate with a variety of different people. From the boaters I helped on the gas dock to the mechanics I worked with in the shop, I learned how to keep everyone happy. With that in mind, I believe this experience would make me a valuable MPC employee. I believe that my ability to pick things up and learn quickly along with my engineering background make me a strong candidate for a position at MPC. I would like to thank you in advance for reviewing my application and would very much appreciate the opportunity to speak in person. I have included my resume with this application and can be reached at (507) 313-8320 or at bkeane3@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from MPC. Sincerely, Brian Keane
