Allie & Celia (formerly Whispurr & Luna) Their adjustment to our new home has gone well and now they are part of the family. They make every day so bright and fun. Thank you for doing what you do. Your efforts have made our family very happy. Char & Jeff Thompson

Bella ( R ) & Bailee ( L ) - formerly Parker & Lois They were adopted on Christmas day 2010. They continue to be good kitties. Sure, sometimes they get into trouble, like unrolling toilet paper & dragging it all over the house but we just laugh! Every night about 10 pm they want me to go downstairs & put them to bed food, water, litter box and a queen-size bed are all downstairs so thats where they want to be! We dont hear them all night until about 7 or 8 am and then they want to come upstairs. They are so good, we couldnt ask for better kitties! Jean Niemuth Anderson Earlier this year we adopted Anderson and we are so happy we did. At first he was a little skittish but has since made himself at home. He likes chasing bugs and exploring the fenced-in yard and complains that he doesnt get enough treats. He gets plenty of exercise chasing Lindsay (our other cat) who does not share his feelings for her! Andrea Swanson

Sookie ( L ) (formerly Shay) and Maeby. Sookie was adopted from ESHA. She is happy and healthy and we love her so much! Cheryl Leonard

My name is CAPONE. See Page 10 for MY Happy Ending!

MORT STRUT 2011
Paula Mortimer has conducted a one-person dog walk called Mort Strut for quite a few years. The funds she raises benefit the animal shelter. We are very lucky to have Paula as a friend and would like to thank all of the donors for helping out by sponsoring Paula for this walk. Eastshore needed these funds to cover costs for shelter repairs. It appeared that the shelter was having something fixed all summer! Thank You - Donors, Paula, Sparky and Buddy.

PETCO GROOMING SALON

We have been asked by our readers to recommend a grooming salon for cats.

Yes, cats do need an occasional bath just like dogs. Of course no self-respecting cat enjoys having a bath and cooperation is not something they understand! Cats like to handle all grooming issues personally. Keeping this fact in mind, it would be a wise decision for you to take kitty to a professional groomer! PETCO at 3829 East Calumet Street in Darboy is where Eastshore Humane takes shelter cats in need of grooming. Many Eastshore members have taken their cats and dogs to PETCO for grooming as well.

PETCO offers a full range of services for dogs and cats including:

Walk in Nail Trims Bath & Brush Flea & Tick Baths

Call (920) 997-1543 to get pricing, a complete list of services, or to schedule a grooming appointment for your dog or cat. The PETCO Grooming Salon is open:

Monday-Saturday . . . 8:00 am 8:00 pm Sunday . . . . . . . . . . . 10:00 am 7:00 pm

EASTSHORE HUMANE EVENTS
SEPTEMBER 2011 Eastshore participated in the Mega Adopt-A-Thon Event which was organized by PETCO/West and PETCO/East. This event was held at the Fox River Mall in Appleton. The purpose of this event was to help Fox River Valley rescues and humane associations. Thank you volunteers - Leigh, Judy, Sharon and David.

AMY & RED RUFF

Eastshore volunteers presented a short program on animal care to the Ebenezer United Church of Christ Happy Hour Nursery in Chilton.

OCTOBER 2011 Representatives from Eastshore Humane and Keshena Rescue were asked to judge the PETCO/Darboy Halloween Pet Costume Contest! All of the costumes were creative. First Prize went to Capone. Capone is a big and well-mannered Rottweiler with a winning personality!

5 WAYS TO KEEP YOUR PET HAPPY AND ACTIVE

(Article by Kristen Collins, CPDT, ASPCA Animal Trainer) With nothing to do, dogs and cats are forced to find ways to entertain themselves, explains Collins. Their activities of choice often include behaviors we fine problematic, like excessive barking or meowing, gnawing on shoes, raiding the garbage, eating houseplants, and scratching the furniture. To prevent behavior and health problems, the following five physical and mental workouts for your pet are recommended: Move it! Health adult dogs need at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise twice a day. Jogging, swimming and playing at the dog park are all great ways to burn excess energy. Engage in structured games, like fetch and tug-of-war. Theyre not only great exercise but also teach your pet impulse control and strengthen the bond between you. Keep your dog occupied when he is home alone by giving him a food-stuffed puzzle toy or some tasty chew toys. Like their canine counterparts, cats also need plenty of aerobic exercise. Get kitty fit with rousing play sessions, such as chase and fetch with furry toys, small balls or toy mice. Teach your cat new tricks! Felines are quick studies and can learn practical skills like coming when called, sitting up, rolling over and even using the toilet.

Collins adds: The bottom line is that you are responsible for enriching your pets life. Providing opportunities to exercise your cat or dogs mind and body will keep them healthy and happy.

For more info about enriching your pets life, please read expert advice at www.aspcabehavior.org.
