SAPSAP-BI Overview

What is SAP BI?

SAP BI is SAP ECC specific Data Warehouse solution : BI stands for Business (Information) Intelligence ; SAP BI can pull data from external system, normally by using flat file. Data in BI cannot be changed display & analysis only. SAP BI is a separate Database, where data are duplicated ;

ECC BI
Ext. Syst

Data update from SAP ECC and Ext. System to SAP BI happens periodically depends on the data loading design

Benefit of SAP BI
Enable self-service, high quality business reporting and analysis on all levels Historical reporting Provides roll-up of SAP ECC transactional details Optimized reporting system for quick response Avoid slowing down SAP ECC transaction system Cross functional views of SAP ECC data

Benefit of SAP BI
End-to-end BI Solution incorporating data warehousing, OLAP, business intelligence tools and pre-defined business content Integrates business process Upgrade software SAP BI is quick and easy.

Web Reports Workbooks

BI Queries

Web Reports/Workbooks: End users work with Web or workbooks

Queries: represent views on the data

Info Cubes OR

DSO

Key users define and maintain queries

InfoProviders: contain data

R/3 Extractors (source system)

SAP BW Terminology

Common terms:
Key Figure = BW elements that represents amounts, prices, values. Example: sales value, movement quantity, etc. Characteristic = BW elements representing information about the data. Example: Customer, Company Code, Plant, G/L Account, etc.

Characteristics Plant Company Code Customer

Key figures and Characteristics make up query data

Key Figures Values Quantity

Characteristics and key figures reside in an InfoProvider. A query is a subset of data from an InfoProvider.

SAP-BI Design consideration SAP-

Design considerations
SAP BI will be used as Reporting tools for Management reports SAP BI pull data from ECC system Data in BI cannot be changed display & analysis only. Data update into BI system will be one day behind R/3 data Delta transaction data will be extracted everyday at night time Enterprise Portal and Bex analyzer(Excel) will be used as standard Frontend tools to display Reports

Business Explorer (BEx) Query Designer

BEx Query Designer

Ease-of use via drag & drop Personalized access Comfortable formula editor for calculations access to any BW Data Provider Windows-based component Web interface for intuitive ad-hoc design & analysis

Business Explorer (BEx) Analyzer

BEx Analyzer:
Queries & Solution Workbooks embedded in MS Excel Wide Range of delivered content Additional MS Excel Functionality (Calculations, Charts etc.) VBA Programming Workbook Precalculation Seamless integration of Query Designer Seamless integration between BEx Web & BEx Analyzer

Business Explorer (BEx) Web Application Designer

BEx Web Application Designer
Offers the ability to create a wide range of easy to use Web Apps Ease to drag and drop feature template.

Build intuitive & custom BW Web Applications

Cockpits / Dashboards Drop-Downs, Radio Buttons Tickers Charts & Maps Guided Navigation Device specific output generation Portal integration APIs for further web design

Authorization Concept

Authorization in SAP BI
One of Authorization concept that we would like to propose to be adopted in this project is as below: Each subject areas modules/streams in SAP BI is secured. o For example: It will be possible to grant access to SD reports without giving access to FI reports. Data in SAP is secured by Organization structure. o Following is the BW authorization restriction being implemented: Finance data is restricted by Company Code & Business Area Logistic data is restricted by Plant Sales data is restricted by Sales Organization
