Dear Year 1 Nursing Students The following are guidelines re your Nursing Practice Studies (NPS) 2 Examination The

Nursing Practice 2 paper is of two hours duration You must Answer or attempt to answer THREE questions in total. Question one is compulsory and must be attempted. All questions carry equal marks. Attempt the required number of questions only. Three questions will be marked ONLY in the order that they are presented.

Administrating an injection subcutaneous / intramuscular Factors influencing sleep; physical, psychological environmental; hospitalisation and sleep deprivation; inducing relaxation and sleep Nursing management of an individual receiving an intravenous fluid administration. Care of the IV site. Administration of medication; forms of medication; routes of administration including injection technique, legislation; guidelines for the administration of medications Blood transfusion : composition and physiology of blood; blood groups; rhesus factor; nursing management of the individual before, during and following blood transfusion; infection control; psycho-social factors. Expressing sexuality; 10 Definition of sexuality; attitudes to sexuality; expression of sexuality, principles of privacy and dignity; body image. Terminology, demographic factors, aging process; attitudes, care environments. Current issues in caring for older person - falls prevention, elder abuse, pharmacotherapy; institutionalisation; acute confusional states; creative recreational activities.
