The Nightmares of Children in The Holocaust Thy Le, Ernesto Avalos, Katy Huynh, Christine Pham Sophomore Reaction

Website History Day 2012

REASON There were a couple reasons why we chose to do our History Day project on the Holocaust, and focus around the effect on children. First, it was because weve heard about the famous holocaust in Europe but never studied it in school, we were curious to find out what when and why it all happened. Furthermore, our group is against discrimination so we wanted to do research on one of the worst case of discrimination in history. Finally, the stories of the children were silenced when their lives were ended by the Nazi leadership, and we wanted them to be heard. In total the Holocaust seemed like an exciting, sad and informative topic to research. RESEARCH PROCESS Research began in classroom. We started off with planning our topic and the many subtopics that would be involved in our website. We then took or research to the library where we checked out and began reading many books that were related to our proposed topics. We divided the books evenly between one another, took them home and jotted down important facts while reading each book. After reading every book we met and collaborated our ideas, changing our original topics slightly to accommodate the information we were able to find. After reading, we focused our research on the internet. We spent many hours researching online going from website to website, looking for as much information as possible. After our research was complete we collaborated once more and began working on the website, going back to the internet on mini research hunts in search of things media related and any information that needed clarifying. DEVOTION TO DEVELOPMENT The idea for doing a website instead of any of the other given projects was due to our teams love of the media. Two of our team members have hands on experience with the multimedia field and so they wanted to spread their love and talent for it. Our devotion to this project was uncanny.

We worked long nights and days to put together this piece. As we worked on this project we had a few conflicts on how it was to be arranged and what to include. These disputes were quickly resolved and we came to an agreement. Each one of our group members contributed to the development and process of the project. We were each divided into specific jobs and tasks that we had to finish at a certain time. NHD Theme The NHD theme that our project correlates too is reaction. Our project is based on the reaction of children during the Holocaust. It follows the lives of children in the Holocaust time period and how children were affected. They were abused, tortured and neglected. Our project is centered more around what was happening to children during that time, a social point of view and not a political one.
