POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Program Director, the Academic Coordinator will be the liaison to and maintain communication with the academic colleges deans, department heads, faculty, and graduate students involved with the McNair Program. Maintain scholars academic records including transcripts, semester grade reports, instructor contact reports, basic skills assessments, tutoring reports, mentoring reports, research proposals, reports, scholarly papers written and class schedules.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists the Administrative Specialist with maintenance of scholar records. Participates in university and community committees as requested by the Program Director and the Director for Educational Partnerships. Maintains drop-in and by appointment office hours for scholars to discuss issues and/or concerns they may have. Presents or arranges presentations and workshops during the McNair Summer Program on research topics, graduate school and oral presentation preparation; graduate school financial assistance; preparing to attend or present at a professional conference and others. Develops, implements, supervises and evaluates the activities of research faculty mentors and graduate student mentors for the academic year research project. These activities include the Summer Research Internship, Pre-Junior Summer Colloquium on Research and Graduate Education and other scholarly and educational activities. Presents or arranges presentations for McNair Scholars during the academic year that include workshops on technical writing, developing library usage and research skills, GRE preparation, graduate schools visits and others. With the assistance of the Administrative Specialist, tracks all McNair graduates through their graduate and doctoral degree attainment. Advises and assists scholars with academic support services, monitors their GPA and continually assesses academic progress. Refers scholars to the tutoring center when needed, maintains tutoring contact reports on scholars who receive tutoring. Sends, collects, reviews and discusses the instructor contact reports with each scholar at the mid-term each semester. Maintains information to monitor the GPA and implement changes if necessary. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years experience in administration, counseling, teaching or related work experience required; in higher education preferred. Three years experience working with low income, first generation, underrepresented students required in higher education preferred. Demonstrates abilities in curriculum development, counseling or learning assistance programs preferred.

EDUCATION:
A Masters degree in Counseling, Administration, Education, or a related field is required. A Doctorate in Education or a related field preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Prolonged sitting in front of a computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 10-15 pounds of objects/material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
