SHAIK AZEEZA
OBJECTIVE
To pursue Postdoctoral position in the area of synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry
such as multidisciplinary drug discovery, drugs based on molecular mechanism,
prodrugs, selective cancer chemotherapy.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Ø Ph. D., (Organic/Medicinal Chemistry)
Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Hyderabad, India. (2004 till to
date)
Research work towards the “Design and synthesis of new molecules based on
thiolactomycin as potential antitubercular, antimalarial agents and new synthetic
approaches for the precursors of biologically active compounds” (Thesis has been
submitted to Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, India)
PERSONAL PROFILE
Ø Male, Indian, born on July 24th, 1981
RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
Four plus years of research training under the guidance of Dr. Ahmed Kamal, an
eminent scientist in the Division of Organic Chemistry at IICT, Hyderabad, India.
Ø Based on SAR studies of thiolactomycin, Design and synthesized more than 30
novel quinolino substituted analogues of thiolactomycin as potential
antitubercular agents
Ø Keeping pace on Drug Resistance (MDR and XDR TB) synthesized a library of
sulfonamide linked analogues of thiolactomycin active against tuberculosis and
malaria
Ø Synthesized the dimers and conjugates of thiolactone and evaluated against
different strains of Plasmodium falciparum.
Ø Synthesized both enantiomers (3S,4R) and (3R,4S) of 3-methoxy-4-
methylaminopyrrolidine a key intermediate for a new quinolone antitumor
compound AG-7352, which claiming as a drug candidature.
Ø Synthesized both the enantiomers of (3R,4R) and (3S,4S)dihydroxy pyrrolodine
by catalytic and biocatalytic approach which are useful intermediates for the
preparation of biologically active Sialyl Lewis X mimetics and novel
carbohydrate mimics.
Ø Developed new approaches towards the synthesis of biologically active
compounds.
Ø Synthesized many pharmaceutically important compounds like fluoxetine,
duloxetine curcumene and curcuphenol with high enantioselectivity.
Ø Lipase mediated resolution of a key intermediate of thiolactomycin has been
developed and configuration was also assigned.

combinatorial approaches to novel product based antimalarial and antitubercular
agents” (Year 2004-2007).
