shared reading lesson plan about quotation marks and the setting of a text was chosen to address Language Arts Standard 2 that states, All teachers should model effective reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills during their direct and indirect instructional activities. The most important communicator in the classroom is the teacher, who should model English language arts skills. This artifact was chosen because it demonstrates how I have taught English grammar concepts to students in an effective and age-appropriate way. By covering content related to grammar and punctuation in writing, as well as demonstrating using language effectively in a teacher think-aloud, I covered a variety of knowledge and performance indicators. Students were prompted to come up with concepts on their own and they were teacher modeled, too. This artifact is an appropriate representation of the standard because it demonstrates that I know how to use the grammar concept as well as effectively teach it to students. This lesson plan demonstrates that I can incorporate grammar and language into a shared reading lesson, and students will be interested to read the story as well as learn a grammar component used within it. This artifact demonstrates my growth as an educator because I had to think how to best present this information so that it was useful and relevant for a kindergarten age group. Many of the students in my class still have difficulty identifying letters, so introducing a punctuation concept could have just been far too advanced for them. They were not assessed formally and the way in which they were expected to know the information was age-appropriate, something that I think takes practice while learning the practice of education.
