to the $50 million School Bond

1. This $50 million School Bond represents poor planning and the wrong priorities. 2. The bond spends $50 million and puts us in debt for 15 years. It's the largest school bond in our history, adding $1,500 of debt for every man, woman and child. 3. This is no time to spend $50 million. We are still in difficult economic times. Families are still hurting. The ConocoPhillips split makes things even more uncertain. 4. It is a time to lower taxes. Your school taxes have gone up almost 70% over the last 10 years. Meanwhile, student enrollment has gone down. 5. Last year the School Board closed Oak Park School because of a budget crisis. Now they want to close more buildings and spend millions to build new. 6. Kids will be bused all over town by combining all 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grades in 2 schools on the east side. More busing, increased costs -- is this what parents want? 7. Numerous studies nationwide show this new grade configuration of 6-7th and 8-9th is bad for young people's development and hurts student performance. 8. Central Middle School will be closed and the Administrative offices moved there. That's costly and inefficient... and leaves yet another building empty. 9. In all, four buildings will be left empty. What a waste... and bad for neighborhoods. Look at Oak Park School since it closed, with all the vandalism and graffiti. 10. The School Board got it wrong last time. The 2007 school bond expanded 3 schools, anticipating increased enrollment. Instead, enrollment went down.

We can spend less... reduce taxes... and still meet our students' needs.

Send the School Board back to the drawing board!
