Purpose: The Coordinator of New Student Programs has primary responsibility for implementing programs related to incoming first year students and transfer students. The Coordinator works with academic and student service departments to develop and direct a comprehensive, cohesive experience for new students and parents. The Coordinator is responsible for all Freshman and Transfer Orientations and will assist in planning Welcome Week events. An apartment in University housing is available for the duration of the appointment. The Coordinator of New Student Programs reports to the Dean of Academic Support Services. Direct Supervisory Responsibilities: A. Para-Professional Staff: Two Graduate Interns B. Student Staff: 2 Student Assistants C. 2 Senior Orientation Leaders D. 26 Orientation Leaders I. Duties and Responsibilities A. Planning 1. Work closely with campus stakeholders to ensure messages and program for new students are consistent with the goals and strategic directions of the University. 2. Collect and review feedback from new students, parents, student staff.

B. Student Staff 1. Provide leadership, direction, and support to those directly supervised. 2. Implement a comprehensive staff development program to prepare student staff to deliver new student orientation. C. Program Management 1. Implement and assess orientation programs for first year and transfer students, including commuter students; correspond with new students and their families prior to Orientation and Welcome Weekend. 2. Collaborate with the Office of the Registrar to maintain the orientation database, manage new student information, and correspond with new students between deposit and enrollment. 3. Implement mechanisms for collecting information, coordinating communications, and organizing events for new commuter students. 4. Assess existing program offerings for new students and make recommendations as appropriate for current or future programs. D. Other Duties 1. Act as a liaison with other departments within the University and related outside groups for issues related to first year and transfer students and others as appropriate to area of responsibility. 2. Promote and encourage department collaboration between the Center and other University departments and offices. 3. Confer with, counsel, and advise students, parents, staff, and faculty regarding programs, services, and initiatives for new students. II. Minimum Qualifications A. Bachelor's degree required. Masters Degree in student affairs, education, counseling or related field preferred. B. One to three years of increasingly responsible work in an academic setting, including substantial experience in orientation programs. C. Ability and willingness to work beyond conventional business hours as necessary in preparation for and during orientation. D. Demonstrated experience giving presentations and speaking to large groups. E. Demonstrated competency working with students of different backgrounds with a special sensitivity to how personal experiences affect the transition into the university environment. F. Excellent time management, organization, and ability to see assigned tasks through to completion. Skill and effectiveness in managing multiple projects concurrently, with several projects in various stages of completion. G. Excellent interpersonal skills, including effective oral and written communications with the campus community, internal customers, and team members to develop working relationships, secure and/or provide information, identify and resolve problems, and develop solutions to accomplish organizational goals. H. Sensitivity, discretion, and communication skills to interact effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff across the campus I. Experience supervising students in a professional environment desired J. Understanding and support of the Jesuit tradition of education and a commitment to the fundamental values of service to others, community, and diversity. K.
