Cada da las vemos danzar en el aire, deleitndonos con sus imposibles acrobacias por encima de nuestras cabezas. Muchas veces, inmersos en la vorgine del da a da, no reparamos en el espectculo que nos brindan las cigeas blancas.

La realidad de esta especie, bella y trgica a la vez, discurre entre alta tensin, carreteras, venenos y pesticidas

ntes, augures del buen tiempo, mensajeras de la natalidad, viajeras. Hoy, aves migratorias convertidas en sedentarias, naturales de frica, Europa y Asia a las que, desde hace unos aos, la bondad del clima y la abundancia de comida han convertido en nuestras vecinas durante todo el ao.

De la Estacin de San Roque a Castellar de la Frontera, siguiendo la lnea frrea, las cigeas han constituido una singular colonia que merece la pena visitar. En los postes electrificados o de telefona construyen sus majestuosos nidos, autnticas obras de ingeniera natural que llegan a pesar desde 30 hasta 600 kilos. No es raro verlas haciendo acrobacias para llegar a los nidos, o salir de ellos, haciendo verdaderos esfuerzos con sus casi dos metros de envergadura de ala a ala; o comunicndose entre s con el caracterstico crotoreo (entrechocar de picos), o criando a su nidada, tres o cuatro huevos, que cada temporada son cuidados en el mismo nido y en el mismo lugar. Por todo ello, miremos ms al cielo, hacia arriba, y disfrutemos mientras podamos del arriesgado y bello espectculo entre la vida, la muerte y la ley de la gravedad, que nos ofrecen, ao tras ao, nuestras acrbaticas vecinas, las cigeas blancas. n

CURIOSIDAD La cigea es un ave que utiliza construcciones humanas (campanarios, tejados, torres elctricas ) para asentar su nido, acercndose a nosotros en busca de proteccin ante posibles predadores y encontrando, en el ser humano, el mayor peligro de su vida. La cigea blanca fue declarada, en 1981, especie protegida, y est incluida en los catlogos nacional y regional de especies amenazadas. Caballo de batalla de ornitlogos y ecologstas, la verdadera realidad de esta especie en nuestra tierra, bella y trgica a la vez, discurre entre la alta tensin de los cables electrificados, las carreteras, los venenos y los pesticidas.
