IACC to host US shipping & logistics delegation looking at Indo-US collaboration Over 12 leading US companies to meet Indian industry

on February 20th in Chennai


Chennai, February 16th, 2012: Indo American Chamber of Commerce (IACC), Tamil Nadu is for the first time hosting a delegation of more than 12 leading ports, shipping and logistics companies, from the U.S to discuss and explore Indo-U.S collaboration in this fast growing sector. IACC is holding a B2B luncheon meet on the 20th of February at Grand Hyatt, Chennai where the delegation will present and also hold one-to-one meetings to explore business opportunities of working together. Francisco Sanchez, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, U.S Department of Commerce is the Chief Guest while Jennifer McIntyre, U.S Consul General and Judy Reinke, Counselor for commercial affairs U.S Embassy, Delhi will chair the meet. Some of the leading shipping companies from the U.S providing state of the art cargo equipment, port security and maritime technology equipment such as Aecom, The Beckett Group, Container Trac, Rapiscan Systems Inc., Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc., DSC Dredge,. Ellicot Dredges, Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company, Port of Baltimore, Port of San Diego will be in Chennai, India for the trade meet. Jim Golsen, Principal Commercial Officer, US Consulate Chennai, said, The Indian shipping and logistics industry has been among the fastest growing in the last few years and the U.S Government sees huge potential in collaboration in this space, like many other sectors. We are keen to develop

the bilateral partnerships and with increase in container traffic of imports and exports, this should be possible faster. The delegation that IACC is hosting at present includes some of the leading companies in the space with specialized expertise and we see this as a very promising beginning. We are sure that some strategic partnerships will emerge out of this meet. Raman Govindarajan, Chairman, IACC Tamil Nadu said India aims to invest over USD 100 billion $ to build new ports and develop its shipping and logistics industry by 2020 and collaboration with foreign partners is a key component to ensure faster growth. This US delegation has some of the leading and biggest organizations worldwide in the space, and with planned B2B discussions with the leading Organizations from Tamil Nadu and other Southern states, surely many deals, alliances and partnerships, can be expected to materialize, and make our Indian products and services in this sector more efficient and competitive world-wide, resulting in increasing trade volumes via Indian Seas.
