This program is open to high school students who are currently in their sophomore or junior year AND have an interest in a career in healthcare. To be eligible for the program, students need to have a 2.25 (on a 4.0 scale) high school GPA. The Healthcare Careers Summer Academy (HCSA) provides students with an opportunity to explore the many different careers in healthcare through lecture, laboratory, and job shadowing experience. Students will: Observe and interact with healthcare providers in Sacramento and Yolo County. Learn about the history of healthcare and current trends in healthcare. Understand keys to college success and prepare for a career in the healthcare industry. Learn basic medical terminology and procedures. Classes will be held for five weeks starting in mid-June on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 AM 12:30 PM. Sacramento City College and field trips to various health providers throughout the region. You will earn 3 college credits and high school elective credits (depending upon your high school). You will have the opportunity to meet many of the healthcare industry leaders in the region. You will learn about jobs you never even dreamed existed in healthcare. Participation in HCSA will look great on your college applications and resumes. You will learn a lot, make new friends and have a lot of fun. YOU WILL SET A COURSE FOR YOUR FUTURE!!

Cost

High school students who are accepted and enroll in the Healthcare careers summer Academy are considered Advanced Education students. Advanced Education students who are California residents are exempt from enrollment fees. Fees for non-residents still apply. Books, supplies, and costs associated with fieldtrips are provided to students through the Health Occupations Preparation and Education Grant. You will be responsible for providing transportation to and from SCC and to job shadow sites.

Screening and Interviews March 15 April 15
Group interviews will be held on: Saturday, March 26th and April 9th from 9 AM 1 PM Thursday, March 31st and April 7th from 4 PM 8 PM Please keep these dates available.

3. Student asks a teacher to complete the Teacher Recommendation section of the application. 4. Obtain an official copy of your high school transcript and include with your application. 5. Include all of your materials and mail or email to Sue Hussey.
