Reflective Journal Day 1

For me day 1 was marked mostly from my late arrival and this has resulted in not participating in the first part of introductory from participants which influenced allot in taking long in familiarizing with participants profiles. However this did not affect my integration in the group thanks to the methodology used by the facilitator of rotating participants in different groups. The main point I retain is that although there are different learning theories each one to be useful it depends on the level of stimulation is given to the participant and also the need to use/select the right learning theory according to the learning objectives. On top of that I also observe that when the learning process is learner cantered there is high chance of his participation in the process and not to be a mere recipient but an engaging process. This method has in lighted me for to tray as much as possible to use it in future training. It became clear to me that to be a good facilitator or trainer means helping learner to enhance their ability and skills to build up their experience. As a facilitator try as much possible to identify the needs and wants of your participants in order to meet those expectations.

Reflective Journal Day 2

The most significant aspect of day two was the reflection of information literacy and the different pedagogical theories that can be used in facilitating such activities. The facilitator and participant behaviour might influence it the final outcome of the learning process. It is important to constantly evolve the participants and this can be done through using positive encouragement, positive criticism, being receptive and open minder as a trainer, taking time to listen to the participant, breaking the hierarchy between trainer and participant, asking leading or prompting questions. On type of participants, exercised brought out some of experience faced in the past during training. It is important to keep focussed and be vigilant to certain participants with bed behaviour and tray as much to interact with them as earlier as possible to avoid embarrassing situation at later stage. What came is that people tend to understand when the learning process is more experimental but it has to be confident (trust), Clear instruction, effective communication, building support try as much as possible to break down the barriers. This was well illustrated through the exercise outside the room by blinding the participant and they had to follow instruction from their facilitators in the groups. One of the things I retain is that that people learn in four ways with the likelihood of developing one mode of learning more than another. This can be through concrete experience, through observation and reflection, through abstract conceptualisation

and through active experimentation. I tend to believe that, this process tend to make the learning more interactive and motivational. What was really new to me was the used of Bruners 5Es and I think it will be more useful in my next training.

Reflective Journal Day 3

The day looked into training materials ranging from Formative tools for assessment, building training plans, the need for pre-assessment, taking into account the design, lesson plan, structure using of technology, material customisation, logistics and disaster management. Those topics are of relevant importance since they play an important role for the successful training. The development of lesson plan, customisation of material and disaster management I found them very enrich in that when you have a plan you can easy be forced to customise the material if you need your training to be more interactive. This need lot of practice to become part of ones strategy for good training and trainer since you will time to time visit your presentation. I came to understand that for you to be a good trainer it takes some sort of dedication in planning and personal preparation. It also finds out that for one to customise material needs to be careful in not to completely change the objective of the exercise or class. I have also improved my knowledge of evaluation process and the ability to apply them, also on the setting of the room.

Reflective Journal Day 4

After few housekeeping, the day mainly concentrated on practical way of customising the existing material for deliver training. Came to understand that one can run a good training without barring participates with long slides and giving them very detailed information which may even confuse them. This can be replaced by simple, clear and easy to understand image. I observed the way colleagues were using the different techniques acquired during the past day to deliver the various group exercises and I can to a conclusion that we have learned allot and most of the groups have gained allot from the training. I also observed some personality issue which might still influence the training if they are not controlled.
