Do not be conformed
Refers to conforming ones self (i.e. ones mind and character) to anothers pattern, in this case the world (cf. 1 Pet 1:14). The wording implies that some Christians in Rome where already doing this. This has always been Gods plea for His people:

Deu 18:9-14; 2 Cor 6:14-7:1;
