Core Tools Self-Assessment

ISO/TS 16949 requires that personnel performing work affecting conformity to product requirements shall be competent on the basis of appropriate education, training, skills and experience. Organizations use many sources for quality training today. Is your team ready? How do you know? AIAG has developed an inexpensive online survey to test basic competency in the automotive quality Core Tools (i.e., SPC, FMEA, MSA, APQP and PPAP), which you can use to baseline your organizations and/or your suppliers competency. The questions reflect information that everyone in automotive quality today should know and was developed with the required knowledge for third party ISO/TS 16949 auditors as an input. Results can be used 1) to verify the effectiveness of your quality Core Tools training, 2) for supplier development, (e.g. Tier Two), and 3) to develop individual or group improvement plans. This is not a certification program. It is an open book timed exercise that all automotive quality practitioners should master. Results are communicated as a percent of correct responses by Core Tool. Summary reports are also available by organization for sponsoring organizations. Dont miss your opportunity to get this information at an incredible value! This self-assessment will be available in 2012. Please check the AIAG website for updates.

Cost of Quality Workshop

The cost of quality has been a subject of discussion for over 45 years but is rarely used as a management tool. Instead, it is typically used to provide a means of measuring defects in manufacturing. Introduction to Structured Innovation for Leaders

What is Structured Innovation? Structured Innovation is a collection of teachable and customizable methods, tools and techniques that leverage subject matter knowledge to envision and drive toward an ideal future state more effectively than optimizing or improving the present condition. Structured Innovation (foundationally based on the integration of structured approaches to innovation, competitive/business intelligence; strategic planning; analysis of market demand; the evolution of systems; and the psychology of innovation) has universal applicability throughout all areas of for-profit, non-profit and government entities. Course Objectives At a high level, the course will introduce leaders to the following topics: What is innovation? What is Structured Innovation? Lean Design
More than 80 percent of all poor quality and high cost is set in motion at the early design stage. Do you spend too much time, too late in the game; working in the wrong place on fixing your product quality, cost and value problems while ignoring product design? This course gives you a proven method product teams can use to deliver repeatable success. You learn a measurement system that will keep you and your team on track. This course is ideal for those who want to expand the benefits of lean thinking beyond the factory floor to product and process design. Target audience: product engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality or process improvement practitioners, supplier quality, project team leaders, engineering directors, and Lean Six Sigma facilitators. Course Objectives The objective of this course is to move the principles of lean thinking up to the early product development phase. Participants will learn how to design products that deliver optimum value while preventing waste (cost, quality, time) right from the start. They will know how to apply Lean Design as both a noun and a verb. Used as a noun, Lean Design means a product that will deliver high value with low waste across its entire life cycle. As a verb, the term describes the design practices used to create such a product. In either case, the primary message is that both the process and the product that results from it must deliver greater value with less waste than conventional product efforts. Today product design is everybodys job. This course gives a systematic, step-by-step way for anyone to apply Lean Design to any product, service or business process. Managements Role In Quality

Management often considers quality to be a technical function, not a management function. In fact, its managements responsibility to provide a clear performance standard and definition of quality; if they dont, employees develop their own. The resultant operational inconsistencies produce problems causing companies to have extensive field service or dealer networks skilled in rework or resourceful corrective action to keep customers happy, but at a very high cost. Personnel start to believe that error is inevitable and is just a cost of doing business; they see no way to change. Management wants to change things, but isnt sure what to do or how to do it. Course Objectives This two-day session provides managers with a step-by-step road map for causing quality and creating a prevention-oriented culture. Participants will be prepared to implement this simple but effective process immediately, creating a company where organized activities happen the way they were planned, efficiently, effectively and consistently. Managements Role in Quality Train-the-Trainer

When it comes to improving an organization, people can only do what they know how to do. The successful implementation of a quality process requires training everyone in the workforce so they understand the need to improve and the actions they can take to cause positive change to occur. Training employees should result in them abandoning any ineffective conventional wisdom and adopting the concepts, tools and skills that create a deep seated determination to ensure the right things happen right each and every time. Because training only works when its put to work, this two day course provides participants with a proven methodology for not only educating a workforce, but encouraging them to act on the knowledge theyve acquired. The Role of the Executive in Quality

Quality pioneer Edwards Deming said, it is not enough that top management commit themselves for life to quality and productivity. They must know what it is that they are committed to that is, what they must do. No approach to improving quality and creating a quality culture can be successful without the sustained involvement and participation of the organizations executives. Value-Based Innovation
Creativity, invention, design and innovation are often confused. Innovation is a holistic process involving the entire organization of a commercial enterprise, whereas invention is a discrete event, typically performed by specialist individuals or very small teams. Innovation should be seen as an integral part of everyones task rather than the responsibility of a separate department and a few specialists. This course will show you how to change innovation from a mystery into a method. Course Objectives The objective of this course is to show how participants can systematically discover new breakthrough opportunities and deliver them in far less time, better quality and less cost. Participants will learn how to recognize opportunities long before competitors awaken to them. They will know how to apply innovative thinking to the task of shaping solutions for these opportunities. And they will be able to use measurement at the early innovation stage to determine whether their innovation solution is the best one. Effective Audit Findings for Continual Improvement

Do your organizations audit findings have missing criteria or lack objective evidence? Are they difficult to interpret or do they lack a focus on continual improvement and fail to add value? ISO standards call for an organization to demonstrate continual improvement. Audit findings are an effective method to facilitate the necessary improvements within a quality management system. However, findings and nonconformity statements are not always clearly documented or value-added to an organization. This one-day course is designed to mitigate incomplete findings, as well as those that dont meet the intent of the process approach, have missing criteria or have incomplete objective evidence. This course uses a practical approach to explain how to develop and document effective findings and nonconformity reports. Using workgroup activities and hands-on participation, instruction will help quality managers and organizations improve the quality of the findings written by internal auditors. Mastering the Process Approach Step-by-Step

Are you struggling to understand the process approach and the benefits you can achieve from it? ISO standards require all manufacturing and service industries to not only understand, but also implement and monitor a Quality Management System (QMS) using a process approach. Whether your organization processes foods, manufactures aerospace components, assembles automotive modules or delivers furniture, you need to understand the fundamentals and benefits of the process approach if you plan to become, or are currently certified to an ISO standard. This one-day course walks you through the process development tools (i.e., process turtle) demonstrating how to use them and explaining the difference between an elemental approach with threads-through clauses as opposed to the process approach with process audit trails. Instruction begins by defining the process approach, teaching you how to benefit from process development tools and how to design effective processes in order to gain management support. You gain hands-on experience with process definition and document development and use actual examples to demystify QMS implementation and assessment. With a focus on understanding customer requirements as process inputs, instruction explores the concept of criteria and the importance of understanding the entire scope of customers to achieve operational objectives and affect improvement. Internal auditors, management representatives, process owners, process implementers, quality personnel, certification body auditors, and secondparty auditors will benefit from this course.
