Internship Guidelines

COURSE CODE:
SDW-601 (For MBA-P) SDW-491 (For BBA-H & BBIT)

OBJECTIVE:
An opportunity for the MBA/BBA(H) Final Term students to learn the practical aspects of the business operations and management in an actual business environment.

DURATION:
(6 weeks for MBA) (6 weeks for BBA)

ELIGIBILITY:
MBA (P)/BBA (H) final semester graduating students. MBA-P having completed 1 year of study BBA (H) having completed 2 years of studies Type of business organization recommended for Internship: Medium/large scale industrial or commercial organizations including Banks, Financial Institutions, Insurance Companies, Consulting / Contracting / Construction Companies, Manufacturing Industry and Service Sector organizations including public and private.

INTERNSHIP INSTRUCTIONS:
y Internee will be placed in the business organization and treated as a management trainee during his / her stay in the organization. y The organization may be identified by UMT or the student. Student will be supposed to submit an internship joining letter, provided
by the organization, with in the first week of internship joining.

y Office of Registrar (UMT) issues letter to the concerned organization where the student intends to complete his/her internship. y He or she will observe and respect the organizations rules and regulations. Any adverse report from organization side will affect the
student evaluation.

y Internee will maintain a daily log of the activities, duties performed or assignment relating to his/her area of training. y Bi-weekly progress reports (brief) to be submitted to the UMT internship department by the internee, through E-mail:

y Final Internship Report: Upon completion of internship, he/she will submit a comprehensive report about the organization, learning
achievements, experience gained, survey or research undertaken, suggestions and recommendations for improvement in the organization, The report will be in proper binding and presentable form. This report is to be prepared by the internee with permission, knowledge and consent of the organization. A copy of the final report must be presented to the head of the organization for his information and comments if any.

y The student will have to go through a viva of the final report.

y At the end of internship period a letter from organization will be required to confirm that the internee has contributed productively
during the period and obtained valuable experience in his/her area of responsibility.

y Evaluation of final report includes student learning experience keeping in view the interim progress reports, log diary, final
presentation and organizations recommendations about the students performance during internship.

y UMT internship Department will review the progress of trainee and may establish contact with the organization to verify the trainee
performance.

LEAVE PROCEDURE
y Causal leaves/sick leaves allowed by the immediate supervisor must be presented to the UMT internship office for information and
record.

y An internee may by allowed two (2) causal leaves per month. Any prolonged leave must have approval by Dean SBE and evidence
of necessity must be established and documented accordingly.

y Absence of more than 5 consecutive days from the work place may have to be compensated by the extension of same number of
days which are lost.

INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS
y Student is eligible for internship only if he/ she have registered for the Internship program. y It is the responsibility of the Student to coordinate with the internship department (UMT) and get the internship guidelines. y Only registered students can collect the guidelines. y Please come in person to collect your guideline, as it will help to break the initial communication barriers between the student and
the internship incharge.

y Upon starting of your internship the student is supposed to send a first email in the following format. y o o o o o o

y BY-WEEKLY report is a must submission and can not be skipped at any cost. y Upon completion of your internship report email your final report to faiza.arif@umt.edu.pk and get an appointment for viva.

REGISTRATION VALIDITY
Internship Registration is valid for ONE semester only.
