The final letter grade will be determined based on the following criteria: Step 1. Compute the Weighted Average of Tests (WAT). Step 2. Compute the Weighted Average of Tests and Assignments (WATA). Step 3. Rule: final Class Score (FCS) = Minimum of WAT and WATA. Step 4. Convert the FCS to a letter grade using the following ranges: A: 100-90, B: 89-80, C: 79-70, D: 69-60, and F: 59-0. Homework Submission: Assignments/homework must be turned in (in class) by the first 5 minutes of the class by the due date; otherwise, your submission will be considered late. Late assignments will be accepted, but will be penalized in the following manner : 10% if submitted by the start of the first class after the due date. No assignments will be accepted after that class.

Makeup tests: If there is a disaster, an accident, or an illness a makeup test can be scheduled provided 1) the instructor is notified promptly and in advance if possible of the reason, and 2) you supply an original letter addressed to me on letterhead from a physician, hospital or relevant authority and signed by the physician, hospital administrator, or relevant authority, stating why you could not make it to the test. Missed tests and assignments will be graded as 0 (zero). Grades will be rounded to the nearest whole number. Any curve applied to the scores will only improve your grade. (if the grades range from 92-100 then everyone gets an ``A'', but the next test may be harder). If Georgia State University is closed (for example due to a weather emergency), test dates and assignment due dates will be re-scheduled on the next class day. In this case information will be posted on my web site. Policy on Academic Honesty: All work submitted for grading must be the student's own work. Plagiarism will result in a score of 0 for the work or dismissal from the course and the Dean of Students office will be notified. No copying from another student's work, of any class, is allowed. It is the students' duty to allow no one to copy his or her work. If it is found that one student copy from another, both papers will be given 0 regardless of who copied from whom. Last Date for Withdrawal: Monday, July 1, 2008.(check with the registrar's office). Disclaimer: This syllabus represents a general plan for the course and deviations from this plan may be necessary during the duration of the course. Chapters (1, 3-9, 14, 15), will be covered. Other chapters in the book will be covered if time permits.
