Shannon Norman, a 24-year-old Baltimore woman, died due to injuries sustained in the crash, which occurred around 2:55 p.m. Feb. 12. Mary E. Graff, 44, of Reisterstown, was driving east on Md. 140 in her 1998 Voltswagen Beetle when she attempted to make a left turn onto Meadow Creek Drive. She turned in front of the 1994 Honda Civic that Norman was a passenger in, striking the left front end, according to Lt. Patrick Bassler, of the Westminster Police Department. The Civic, driven by Benjamin Cook, 23, was sent into lane two of Md. 140s westbound side and struck the passenger door of a third vehicle, Bassler said. Norman was pronounced dead at the Carroll Hospital Center around 4 p.m. Cook was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore and was released a day later. Chief Jeffrey Spaulding, of the Westminster Police Department, said while the investigation is still ongoing, the preliminary results suggest Graff failed to yield to oncoming trafc. He said inspections are currently being done on the vehicles involved to see if any equipment issues could have led to the crash. After that, the police will have a conversation with the states attorneys ofce to see if charges Please see SHA, A6

After releasing a short list of conrmed speakers earlier this month for the countys solid waste forum scheduled for Feb. 28, the county now has the full list of presenters, which includes the addition of two owners of green businesses. Roberta Windham, county media liaison, said that the earlier list had included several speakers from national solid waste organizations and a representative from Waste Not! Carroll, a grassroots
coalition interested in solid waste issues, but had calls out to several other presenters at that time. It took a few more weeks to conrm the additional guests, she said, but now the list is complete. The new presenters include Steven Chatz, president of electronics recycling business e-End in Frederick; and Nelson Widdel, marketing and sales director of The Peninsula Compost Group LLC, which has a commercial composting operation in Wilmington, Del.
