International students General information The higher education system in Republic of Moldova is structured on 3 levels (Bologna Process): 1st

cycle (licen ) corresponding to Bachelor s degree, 2nd cycle corresponding to Master s degree and, 3rd cycle (doctorate) corresponding to the PhD degree. Higher education of Republic of Moldova is administered by the Ministry of Education (ME). Academic year The academic year starts on 1st of September and lasts up to the end June, with holiday breaks in January and April. Each academic year is divided into two semesters. Each semester consists of 15 full weeks of classes, followed by the examination session. Grading scale The grading scale runs from 1 to 10 and the marks have the following meanings: 1-4 fail, 5-6 sufficient, 7 satisfactory, 8 good, 9 very good, 10 excellent. The total number of ECTS credits for one semester is 30 (thirty) and for one academic year is 60 (sixty).

Preparatory courses PREPARATORY COURSES Moldova State University organizes the preparatory courses (8 months) for studying Romanian and/or Russian, as well as some basic sciences (mathematics, physics, chemistry, economics, etc). A group requires a minimum number of 10 students. Foreign applicants who want to attend the preparatory courses must send their (scanned) application file to the Department of International Relations (international@usm.md). The application file shall contain the following documents (certified/authorised translations into Romanian/Russian/English): 1. Application form (download ENG, ROM, RU). 2. Passport, valid at least one year on the date of application. 3. High School Graduation Certificate and Transcript of records (with apostille). 4. Certificate issued by the home country Ministry of Education certifying:

the authenticity of the High School Graduation Certificate; the study period that preceded the issue of the Certificate; the academic value of the Certificate (the right of the holder to be enrolled in the higher education level); the description of the marking scale.

Bank account Certificate on availability of the amount necessary for tuition fee, health insurance, accommodation and subsistence. Upon arrival in Moldova, the accepted candidate must present in person for registration at the Department of International Relations of Moldova State University. In order to get enrolled, he/she must submit the original application documents and their translated copies. Application deadline: July 15, 2011. Starting date: November 1, 2011

Attendance of classes is mandatory. Upon the completion of courses the students take a final examination and obtain a CERTIFICATE issued by the Ministry of Education. Tuition fee (to be paid by arrival at the University within 10 days): 16500 lei (~EUR 1000) International students can be accommodated in the University dormitories or can hire an apartment in the city. Note. The number of places in the University dormitories is limited. Accommodation fee in the University dormitories is about 10 Euros/month. Language courses

Moldova State University offers Romanian and Russian as foreign language intensive courses: I. THREE MONTHS COURSES Tuition fee: 8000 lei (~490 EUR) II. SIX MONTHS COURSES Tuition fee: 12000 lei (~730 EUR) The courses start on November 1st,. A group requires a minimum number of 10 students. For incoming Erasmus students registered at Moldova State University the courses are free of charge Note. Tuition fees must be paid by arrival at the University within 10 days. The foreign citizens who are not indicated above can enter the territory of the Republic of Moldova on the basis of a valid visa issued exclusively by the Diplomatic and Consular Missions of the Republic of Moldova abroad. Foreign students can be housed in the student dormitories or can choose to have private accommodation. The International Relations Department provides assistance with dormitory housing only. Meals Students can cook their own meals (student s dormitory offers facilities for cooking) or eat at the university student cafeterias (str. Pu kin 1 , str. Tighina 2, str. Gh. Ca u 32). Students can have breakfast, lunch and dinner at about XXX at the student canteen: X lei (breakfast) + Y lei (lunch) + Z lei (dinner). Students also can take meal at the pizzerias and restaurants in the city, where prices are higher. Chi inau City Chi in u (Romanian pronunciation: [kiinw]; or Kishinev (before 1991), Russian: the city is 592,900 (2007) which grows to 911,400 in the entire metropolitan area. Chi in u is the most economically prosperous locality in Moldova, and its largest transportation hub. As the most economically and socially important municipality in Moldova, the city has a broad range of educational facilities. Climate Chi in u has a continental climate, characterized by hot dry summers and windy winters. Winter temperatures are often below 0 C (32 F), although they rarely drop below 10 C (14 F). In summer, the average temperature is approximately 25 C (77 F), however, temperatures sometimes reach 35 to 40 C (95 to 104 F) in mid-summer in the city centre. Spring and autumn temperatures vary between 16 to 24 C (61 to 75 F), and precipitation during this time tends to be lower than in summer but with more frequent yet milder periods of rain. If the applicant does not speak one of these languages, then he/she is advised to take Romanian or Russian language preparatory courses. APPLICATION PROCEDURE
