Here a temporary magnet (in our case electromagnet) will be employed to transfer magnetic loads from one place to another within a prescribed time. An event where not only speed & accuracy of the machine will be tested but participant's Desi Jugad" Quotient will be also tested. Innovations incorporated will surely be applauded and appreciated. Its an event where knowledge is not a prerequisite (presuming you have inherent love for Science). Problem Statement Construct a machine to transfer iron scrap (like nails, nuts-bolts, screws, etc.) from the box/track to the destination box using magnetic (or electromagnetic) energy. Machine Specifications 1. Dimension & Fabrication The machine must fit within a box of dimensions 25cm25cm50cm (lbh). The machine must be stable and must stand on its own throughout the run when put in the machine zone. The machine should not separate or split into two or more units. Machines cannot be constructed using readymade Lego kits or any readymade mechanism but use of readymade gear assemblies is allowed. Violating this clause will lead to disqualification of the machines. Judges hold the right to subjectively evaluate this clause. 2. Power Supply & Propulsion The method of propulsion is at the discretion of the builder provided the power source is nonpolluting. The power can be derived from batteries onboard the robot or it can be supplied from the external sources or both, but mechanisms for direct transfer of mechanical energy like clutch wires is not allowed. If the batteries are external then they are excluded from the size constraints. The maximum applied voltage, current to all the components inside the robot can vary upto 18V.The maximum current can vary from 1A (DC) to 3A(DC). If higher voltages/currents are used then the team will be disqualified immediately. Supply to electromagnet can vary from 1A to 4A. The organizers will provide a standard 230V/50 Hz AC power supply. Any extension cords, eliminators, adaptors, etc. required will have to be arranged by participants themselves.

3. Controls The machine can only use magnetic (or electromagnetic) energy to lift/drop the loads (magnetic materials). Any machine using any other mechanism will be disqualified immediately. The machine can be made wireless or autonomous but there are no extra points for this. The machine must be controlled by only one remote. GENERAL RULES At the beginning of the run, the team (comprising of max. 4 members) has to place its machine in the machine zone. The game coordinator will inform when to start the run. Each team will be given 5 minutes before the run to make some final adjustments in their machine after their machine is kept in the machine zone. After this the timer will be started irrespective of whether the team is ready or not. Only one member from the team is allowed to be near the arena while operating the machine. No restarts or pauses are allowed once the timer has been started (until or unless there is some problem faced by the organizing team). Machines should not make any marks on the floor of the arena. Any machine found damaging the arena will be immediately disqualified. Touching the cardboards on which the ferrous materials are placed is not allowed. The organizers may stop any machine at any time if they feel that it is performing, or is about to perform, any action that is dangerous or hazardous to people around or equipment. No machine is allowed to use any flammable, combustible, explosive or potentially dangerous processes. Participants are not allowed to keep anything inside the arena other than the machine. The teams must adhere to the spirit of healthy competition. Judges reserve the right to disqualify any team indulging in misbehavior. The organizers reserve the right to add, modify or remove any rules without any prior notice. COMPETITION RULES The maximum time given for completing the run is 5 minutes. The machine has to transfer load from the source box to the destination box using magnetic (or electromagnetic) energy. The goal of the game is to obtain maximum points according to the given point-system in a stipulated time. The machine that has more points at the end of the run (of all participants) is declared the winner. The nails, nut-bolts & screws of different denominations and different positions have different points. Heavier the load, more the accuracy, more are the points. The score of the team depends on the number and type of loads that their machine deposits in the destination areas. Time to perform the operation is restricted. Points will be awarded according to time taken and accuracy collectively. Lesser the time taken to perform the task, more are the points. Bonus will be given if a team does the task within the time limit. If the teams are not able to perform the task within the restricted time, then points will be awarded relatively. The final decision rests with the organizers. They can change rules without any prior notice. Load Denomination Points Awarded Negative Marks Weight1 M-12 5 -2.5 Weight2 M-10 4 -2 Weight3 M-8 3 -1.5 The above said marks can be changed by the organizers without any prior notice. Any unnecessary load lying on the arena , after the end of the run, will contribute towards negative points. Negative points of -1 will be given. If a team transfers all the loads successfully to the destination then a bonus of 5 points will be given. The time measured by the organizers will be final. Time measured by any contestant by any other means is not acceptable for scoring. Judging Criteria For each of the run, the total points for successfully transferring the loads will be calculated as

follows: Total Score = (120-T) + Total Points including penalties and bonus.T= Time taken (in sec.) to complete the run, or equal to 120 for teams who do not complete the run in 2 minutes. The winners will be decided by the better of these two total points for the total run. In case of a tie, the team with more no. of heavier loads will be given a higher rank; otherwise a rerun will be given to the respective teams. In case of any disputes/discrepancies, the organizers' decision will be final and binding. Arena Specifications The size of arena is 140cm80cm (lb). Source and destination are the specific area on the arena. Area of the source and destination is 4*4(cm*cm) irrespective of being on ground or on stairs or on the slope. Source and destination may or may not be boxes. Different specific areas will be defined for the bolts and nuts on the arena. The nuts & bolts can be aligned in rectangular, triangular or any other way etc. Specific areas of source and destination can include ground surface, stairs or slope. The nuts and bolts may be placed on the ground or on the stair case or on the slope in any alignment. Here alignment can be of any shape. The path of movement of robot will be told on spot. The difference between the stairs is 3 cm. Maximum 3 stairs can be there. Slope will be provided on top of stairs. Slope will be of 10 to 20 degree subjected to minor variations.
