"Preparation & taking the Associated Value Engineering Specialist (AVS) Exam- by SAVE International"

Course #: VE 101 Duration: 5 Days Overview:

Earned PDU: 40 PDUs

April 08 12, 2012

Value Engineering (VE, or Value Analysis) is a management technique that seeks the best functional balance between cost, reliability and performance or quality of a product, project, process or service. It is conducted by a multidisciplinary team composed of experienced and specialized professionals. The VE team is independent of the design team, but its members must have experience in the particular field of the project in question. Working as an extension of the design team, the VE team analyses the project from a function/cost standpoint, providing alternative design suggestions that may improve performance, construction and life-cycle costs. They may also improve construction methods or schedules, and may introduce flexibility into operating or maintaining the project. This course is approved by SAVE International which is recognized worldwide as the standard of the profession, attesting to one's core knowledge and understanding of critical Project Management concepts, principles and techniques. "Certified Value Specialist", "CVS", "Associate Value Specialist", "AVS', "Value Methodology Practitioner", and "VMP" are certification marks of SAVE International and may be used only by individuals who have successfully completed the requirements of SAVE International's certification program and who maintain active certification. By finishing two SAVE International approved Value Engineering Courses below, you will be eligible to enter the AVS exam and becoming certified in Value Engineering and Value Methodology.

Associated Value Specialist (AVS) Exam

The AVS CERTIFICATE is the first level of professional certification in Value Engineering approved by SAVE International. SAVE International is the premier international society devoted to the advancement and promotion of the value methodology (also called value engineering, value analysis or value management). SAVE International is the leading advocate for the practice of function-based, value-enhancing methods.

The AVS Exam will be conducted at the end of the course (on the Day 5). Exam duration is 2 hours. It is made of two parts as follows: Part one (100 points) 50 questions X 2 points = 100 points Part two (100 points) 20 questions X 2 points = 40 points 15 questions X 2 points = 30 points 5 questions X 6 points = 30 points Subject Value Methodology fundamentals, background, history and job plan Subject Function analysis in general General knowledge of FAST Diagramming Understanding of function logic and relationship between different functions in a FAST diagram

What is the Certification Program?

The Certification Program is composed of two major elements: individual professional certification and educational program approval. The highest level is the Certified Value Specialist (CVS), which is recognition of the individual who has met all certification requirements, both technical and experience, and whose principal career is value engineering. The Associate Value Specialist (AVS) program recognizes those individuals who decided to become professional value engineers but who have not yet acquired all the experience or technical skills expected of a CVS.
