MDIS: The Psychology of Learning and Study (SS-1401L) Portfolio Title: Improving Employability Skills

Your Portfolio must have 3 sections: Section 1: Group work skills Section 2: This section can focus on either Action Planning or Creating / Improving Your CV Section 3: Applying a psychological concept to your learning You must include a reference section Put supporting evidence (action plan, CV etc.) in appendices. Word count: max total word count = 2000 words (Reference section and supporting evidence in appendices not included in the word count )

Section 1: Group work skills

Critically reflect on the effectiveness of your group during the preparation and delivery of your group presentation in Semester 1 for the Psychology of Learning and Study. Identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the approach your group took and suggest improvements where possible. Discuss how well your group performed in each stage. For example, how well did your group perform when planning, sharing the workload, overcoming difficulties/differences, and delivering the presentation. State what you learnt from this experience and how it will inform the way you will approach the next group work task you take part in. Integrate your reflection with relevant social psychological theory and research.

Section 2: Complete ONE of the following two options A. Explain how you have used action planning to improve your

employability. Present your action plan as supporting evidence in an appendix. In the main body of your work explain how the goal you identified and the plan you developed contributed to increasing your employability. For example, it could be a plan to develop a particular skill*, to get relevant work experience, or to investigate career possibilities. Reflect on the effectiveness of your plan and use relevant psychological theory and research to support your reflection. *(the skill can be relevant to your studies or a career. Think back to the SaPRA exercises you completed at the start of the year which identified areas you need to strengthen) OR B. Discuss how you have developed your CV in order to improve your employability. A CV must be included in an appendix. Explain how your CV has been created / improved. In order to do this analyse how your CV has developed as a result of this module, for example, refer to the SaPRA workshop, the reflection exercises, action planning and your personal development planning (PDP).

Reflect on why you have presented your CV the way you did (making use of psychological theory as appropriate, e.g. in human factors, cognitive psychology, social psychology etc.). Section 3: Critically reflect on how you have applied a relevant psychological concept to improve your academic performance. Briefly outline a psychological concept that is relevant to your learning. Explain how you applied it in order to improve your academic skills. Reflect on how useful this was and how you will develop this approach in the future. Make use of psychological theory and research to support your reflection. Dont forget to include a reference section at the end of your portfolio.
