Charles F. Kerchner, Jr., was born in 1945 in Allentown PAIn 1962 he graduated
from Emmaus High School, Emmaus, P A After graduation from high school he enlisted
in the U.S. Naval Reserves and served 2 years active duty on the ship USS Fulton AS-II,
a submarine tender, based in New London, CT. Upon leaving active duty he continued
his service in the Naval Reserves completing 33 years of total service and retiring with
the rank of Commander. Under the GI Bill he attended Lafayette College graduating with
a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1975 and a B.A degree in Economics in 1976.
He is married and has two children and foUl' grandchildren. He and his wife reside in
Emmaus, PA

In 2002 Charles retired from Kalglo Electronics Co., Inc., Bethlehem P A, a company
which he founded in 1969 and at whiclt he worked asthe Chief Engineer, President, and
Chairman of the Board. DUl'ing his career he received foUl' patents in the field of
electronic control systems and infrared heating. He is now retired. He transferred his P.E.
license to inactive status in the fall of 2011. Charles is now the President of C.F.
Kerchner & Associates, Inc., a post-retirement, on-line, part-time genetic genealogy
DNA testing micro-consulting business dba GenealogyByDNAcom and selling online
the Genetic Genealogy DNA Testing Dictionary and articles he has written over the
years.
He has been active in his community serving at various times on various township
and county bodies and committees such as Planning Commissions and Zoning Hearing
Boards.
His major hobby is genealogy which he has been pursuing for over 33 years. He is
a member of many historical and genealogical societies including the Lehigh County
Historical Society, Macungie Historical Society, Dillingersville Union School and
Church Association, Berks County Genealogical Society, PA German Cultural Heritage
Association, and the Sons of the American Revolution. Over the years he has authored
several tutorial and help articles on doing PA German research including 18

German Naming Customs and Traditions and Tips & Tricks for the Beginner -
Genealogy 101. During the last eight years he has been a pioneer in the new field of
Genetic Geneaiogyla:unclUng iheKerchiier Surnanle Genetic GenealogyYJ)NA Proj ect
in February 2001, which was one oflliefirsf dozen such projects iri the "world done by an
amateUl' genealogist. He is active in many genetic genealogy online discussion forums. In
2004, he authored the Genetic Genealogy DNA Testing Dictionary. Since 2005 he
moderates on a daily basis the online genetic genealogy discussion group at Yahoo.com
named DNA-Anthrogenealogy, which discusses ancient population group affiliations
which can sometimes be determined from certain genetic genealogy tests. In 2005 he
helped found the International Society of Genetic Genealogy (ISOGG). For more
