REQUIREMENTS 1.

Pipes
1.1. Pipe dimensions shall be in accordance with ASME B36.10M for wrought steel and wrought iron pipe and with ASME B36.19M for stainless steel pipe, unless otherwise specified. 1.2. Pipe made by acid Bessemer process shall not be acceptable. Steel pipe shall be made by open hearth, electric furnace or basic oxygen processes. 1.3. Butt-welding end preparation shall be in accordance with ASME B16.25. 1.4. Pipe tolerances shall be in accordance with applicable material code. 1.5. Pipe thickness shall be calculated in accordance with ASME B31.3.

2. Valves
2.1 Gate, globe and check valves 3. Forged steel valves (socket welding or threaded ends) shall be in accordance with API 602, unless otherwise specified. 4. Cast steel valves (flanged or butt-welding ends) shall be in accordance with API 600, unless otherwise specified. 5. Pressure seal shall be in accordance with ASME B16.34, if required. 6. Ball valves shall conform to ASME B16.34, MSS SP-72, API 6D, API 608, as applicable. 7. Plug valves shall conform to API 599. 8. Butterfly valves shall conform to API 609. 9. Wafer type check valves shall conform to API 594. 10. Corrosion resistant valves (normally austenitic stainless steel) in class 150 shall be in accordance with API 603, unless otherwise specified. 11. Bronze valves shall conform to MSS SP-80, " Gate, Globe, Angle and Check valves". 12. Face-to-face and end-to-end dimensions of steel valves shall conform to ASME B16.10 to the extent covered. Valve supplier shall furnish certified dimension drawings for all valves. 13. Butt-welding end valves shall be furnished with ends to match pipe schedule. 14. End preparation shall be in accordance with ASME B 16.25. 15. End connection of threaded valves shall be in accordance with ASME B1.20.1. 16. End connection of socket welding valves shall be in accordance with ASME B16.11. 17. Bonnet gasket materials shall be compatible with the gasket materials specified in the individual material class, unless otherwise specified. Selection of gasket and packing is based on Valve No. and Specification List. 18. Features not covered by the valve descriptions shall be in accordance with manufacturer's standard suitable for the intended application, subject to owner approval. 19. Where used carbon steel bonnet, cap bolts are normally furnished with ASTM A193 grade B7, they shall be furnished in the liquid quenched and tempered condition. 20. Bonnet, cap bolts shall not furnished with ASTM A307. 21. Unless otherwise specified in the individual material class, manual gear operators shall be supplied for the following sizes and larger. 22. When the seating or unseating torque, combined with the drag of the packing causes a pull at the rim (rimpull) of 530N(120lbs) or more, the mechanical advantage shall be increased. 23. Handwheel diameter is limited to 750mm. 24. ASME Class Gate Globe Ball Plug Butterfly 25. The gate valves with 2-piece or split wedge shall not be used, unless specific approval is obtained. The 2-piece or split wedge type shall not be used in steam service. 26. Swing check valves shall be provided with a boss at location "G" when the wall thickness is insufficient to permit a drain tap (3/4B for valve size 2B and larger). 27. Bosses and taps shall comply with the requirements of para. 6.3 of ASME Valves shall not be tapped, unless otherwise specified on the purchase order. 28. Swing check valves shall be provided with limit stops to prevent disc from remaining in the open position and also suitable for horizontal as well as vertical installation with flow upward. 29. The operating levers or handles on ball valves and plug valves shall indicate, by their position, whether the valve is open or closed.

30. The open position shall be indicated when the lever or handle points in a direction parallel to the flow through the valve. In addition, it shall be impossible to reverse the indicating position inadvertently during reassemble of the valve. 31. Ball valves are not permitted as drain or bleed valves in hydrocarbon service. 32. Lubricated plug valves shall not be used, unless otherwise specified. 33. Soft seated quarter turn valves shall be in accordance with API 607, where firesafe design specified in the individual material class.

34. Flanges
Flanges shall be as follows: (1) ASME class 25,125,250,800 cast iron (all sizes) : ASME B16.1 (2) ASME class 150 ~ 1500 (15DN ~ 600DN) : ASME B16.5 ASME class 2500 (15DN ~ 300DN) : ASME B16.5 (3) ASME class 150 ~ 300 (650DN ~ 1500DN) : ASME B16.47 Series B (4) ASME class 600 ~ 900 (650DN ~ 900DN) : ASME B16.47 Series B Unless otherwise specified, flange facing finish shall be in accordance with ASME B16.5. Flanges not conforming to ASME B16.5, ASME B16.1 and ASME B16.47 shall be specified on drawings. Flat face flanges with full-face gaskets shall be used against flat face cast iron equipment and valve flanges and FRP with flat face. End preparation of welding neck flanges shall be in accordance with ASME B16.25. The bore of welding neck flanges shall correspond to the inside diameter of the connecting pipe or fitting, permitting a thickness difference up to 1.6 mm. When the difference in wall thickness between the two components being joined exceeds 1.6 mm, taper boring shall be performed on the component having the heavier wall per ASME B16.25. Ring type joint flanges shall have grooves conforming to ASME B16.20 Steel line blanks shall conform to ASME B16.48.

35. Fittings
3.4.1 All fittings shall be as follows: (1) Forged steel socket welding and threaded fittings : ASME B16.11 (2) Malleable cast iron threaded fittings (Class 150, 300) : ASME B16.3 (3) Butt-welding fittings and stub ends : ASME B16.9 (4) Steel flanged fittings : ASME B16.5 (5) Cast iron flanged fittings : ASME B16.1 (6) Swaged nipples and Bull Plug : MSS SP-95. (7) Forged branch outlet fitting : MSS SP-97 End preparation of butt-welding fittings shall be in accordance with ASME B16.25. When butt-welding fittings are specified with a wall thickness larger than that of the pipe and this results in misalignment greater than 1.6 mm between the inside surfaces of the parts to be joined, the fitting shall be taper bored per ASME B16.25. All lines which connect to another line or header, including instrument connections, vents and drains are considered as branch connections. The basis for design of branch connection shall be in accordance with the applicable ASME Code. Reinforcement requirements shall be determined by ASME B31.3 Para.304.3. Branches shall be made with un-reinforced or reinforced stub-Ins with the following exceptions. (1) Full size tees shall be used in all pressure ratings. (2) Reducing tees shall be used where specified in the job specification. (3) Branches 1-1/2B and smaller shall be made with integrally reinforced fittings. Special consideration shall be taken for branch connection in cyclic service such as temperature cycling. External coated pipes shall be manufactured in accordance with SES-PCS-2. (Refer to SES T01-S01) Dimensions of large diameter fabricated fittings and swage nipple which are not covered by ASME B16.9, Butt welding fittings in NPS 50 and larger (Elbows, Caps, Tees and Reducers) shall be made in accordance with Manufacturers standard subject to Purchasers Approval.

36. Gaskets

3.5.1 All gaskets shall be as follows: (1) Spiral wound gaskets : ASME B16.20 (2) Non-metallic gaskets : ASME B16.21 (3) Ring-joint gaskets : ASME B16.20 (4) Gasket dimensions for flanges 26B and larger : ASME B16.47 Series B (5) Gaskets not conforming above codes shall be specified on drawings. (6) As per project specification and piping classes.

37. Bolts and Nuts for Flange


Bolts and nuts shall be as follows: (1) Bolts and nuts shall be heavy hexagon bolts and nuts, and shall conform to ASME B18.2.1 and B18.2.2 respectively. (2) Threads shall conform to coarse thread series, ASME B1.1. Number of threads shall be 8 per one inch for bolt size U1-1/8" and larger. (3) Accuracy of threads and fineness of finish Stud bolts shall be threaded in their full length. Stud bolt with two nuts shall be used rather than bolt with one nut. Number, diameter and length of bolts for flange connection shall be in accordance with applicable flange codes.

38. Threads
Threads for pipes, flanges, valves and fittings shall be specified in ASME B1.20.1 pipe threads, unless otherwise specified.

39. Seal Welding and Thread Sealant


Seal welding when required shall be specified in the individual material class or piping Construction specification.
