1560: Haji Begum, wife of Mughal Emperor Humayun invites three hundred Hadrami Sayyids and sheikhs to accompany her to Delhi on her way back from Hajj 1567: The Ismaili Sect (Bohras) transfers its headquarters from Yemen to India 1665: Sayyid Abdullah an envoy of Hadramaut ruler arrives in the court of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb 1839: Aden became part of the British Empire and was administered by the Bombay Presidency 1855: A fortnightly steamer service with Bombay was initiated by Peninsular and Orient Line 1874: The Parsi Panchayat was established in Aden 1883: Holy Parsi fire consecrated at the Adenwalla Agiary in Aden 1883: Revolutionary leader Vasudeo Balwant Phadke dies in Aden jail on February 17 where he was incarcerated by the British after his arrest in July 1879 1906: M.Viswesvaraya, one of the greatest engineers of India, is sent by the British to Aden to lay out an effective underground drainage system 1913 : Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose visits Aden 1915: D.G.L. Shaw appointed as the first British Commissioner of Kamaran Islands 1931: Mahatma Gandhi visits Aden on his way to London, accompanied by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya and Sarojini Naidu 1931: Aden Bharat Mahila Mandal was established as a cultural association for the participation of all the Indian women in Aden. 1935 : Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose undertakes his second visit to Aden 1937: Aden administration is separated from India with the appointment of a Governor directly reporting to London 1949: Dhirubhai Ambani arrives at Aden at the age of 16 and starts his career in a humble way as a clerk in A.Besse & Co 1950: Indian diplomatic mission at the level of Commissioner was set up in Aden and AB Thadani appointment as the first Commissioner in June, 1950 1952: Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hall is built by the Indian community in Aden out of donations raised from within the community 1954: Bank of India opens its branch in Aden and continues until its incorporation by the National Bank of Southern Yemen in 1970, which is now the National Bank of Yemen 1955: Prince Saif Al-Islam Al-Hussein visits India 1958: Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hall inaugurated by U.N.Dhebar, the then president of the Indian National Congress in October 1958 1962: India becomes one of the first countries to recognize Yemen Arab Republic (YAR) after the 26th September, 1962 revolution 1967: India recognises the Peoples Democratic Republic of Yemen (PDRY) after its formation on 29th November 1967 1970: Indian Embassy in Sa'naa is established 1974: Syed Nazir Hussain appointed as first Resident Ambassador of India to YAR 1973: Mother Teresa visits Yemen, along with five nuns from the Missionaries of Charity to set up a Leprosy Centre at Hodeidah 1983: President Ali Abdullah Saleh visits India to participate in the NAM Summit 1984: President Zail Singh visits Yemen, cuts his trip short in view of the assassination of Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi 1991: Mother Teresa visits Yemen again to set up a Leprosy Centre in Taiz 1998: Holy Parsi Fire, Atash-e-Adaran, transported from Aden on August 16 to Bombay on board a special Air India Boeing 707 which had an all-Parsi crew 1999: President Ali Abdullah Saleh visits India on his way to Japan 1999: Vice President Shri Krishan Kant visits Yemen
