*** Master Song Database Disclaimer *** While we strive to maintain an accurate database of songs, it is inevitable that discrepancies will occur between the Master Song Database and your own discs. Manufacturers frequently substitute songs or change track numbers when they reissue discs, or they publish incorrect information about the songs or track order. It is impossible to keep track of all these changes or to track the various manifestations of disc versions. Perscitium, LLC, will under no circumstances be responsible or liable for any damages resulting from discrepancies between the Master Song Database and your own library. Before incurring any costs in printing your songbooks, you should always check the song list to ensure it is in agreement with your actual songs. A good way of doing this is to sort your book data in Disc # format. Then, go through each disc you have and compare it to the list. If you are preparing songbooks for other KJs, you first should provide them with this report and have them certify that the songs are correct.

II. Installation
To install KJ Pro, take the following steps: 1. Insert your KJ Pro disc into your CD-Rom drive. After a few moments, the installation should begin automatically. If the installation does not begin automatically, click Start and then Run. In the Run box, type D:Setup (assuming D is the drive designation for your CD-Rom drive; otherwise, substitute the letter designation for your drive). Then, click OK. Alternatively, you can click Browse and locate your CD-Rom drive. Select the file called Setup.exe and click Open. Then, click OK. 2. This will start the KJ Pro installation program. Follow the steps on the screens that follow to install KJ Pro. The installation program will, by default, copy the program and data files to C:\Program Files\KJPro\2.5\. During the installation process, you do have the option of installing the program in a different directory. In addition to the C:\Program Files\KJPro\2.5\ directory, the installation also will copy the run-time files to the Damar Systems folder in the Common Files directory. The location of your Common Files directory is dependent on the version of Windows on which your computer runs. These run-time files are necessary in order for KJ Pro to work, so you should never delete or modify this directory or the files contained in it. The installation should place a red KJ Pro icon on your desktop. You may start the program simply by double-clicking this icon. An alternate way to start the program is to look for the KJ Pro 2.5 program group in the program section of the Start menu. When you first open KJ Pro, it must build your Song Database and download any updates from the Internet. The program will guide you through these initialization steps. It is at this time that you will enter your Registration Number. In order for the Automatic Downloader to work, an Internet connection must be established. Some versions of Windows and certain firewalls may try to block KJ Pro from accessing the Internet. If KJ Pro is being blocked, be sure to unblock it or contact your system administrator. Those with dial-up modems need to connect to the Internet before starting KJ Pro in order for the Automatic Downloader to function.

III. Main Menu

Figure 2.1

The KJ Pro Main Menu is shown in Figure 2.1 above. Users upgrading from KJ Pro 2.0 will find this menu pleasantly familiar. Those upgrading from KJ Pro 1.5 will notice that the menu has been simplified from the earlier version and that many similar screens have been combined, with new options added to the File menu in the upper-left corner: Refresh Tables: If you are having a problem with your songbooks displaying all of their discs, you simply need to refresh the discs in your database. By selecting this option from the File menu, KJ Pro will go through all of your songbooks and make sure that it displays all of the correct information. Compress: After you make numerous changes to your songbooks, the KJ Pro database may become very large. An unwieldy database will make the program perform sluggishly. You can solve this problem by compressing your database. Simply select Compress from the File menu to perform this action. However, KJ Pro will prompt you to compress the database periodically.

Import: This is an important File menu feature for anyone who used a version of KJ Pro that predates version 2.5. The import feature will help you extract songbooks from your old data. KJ Pro 1.5 users will need to perform this function in order to retrieve their existing songbooks for use in KJ Pro 2.5. Just browse for the files called kjprodata.mdb and/or kjpersonal.mdb and import them into the new version of the program. KJ Pro 2.0 users can manually import their KJPUserData.mdb file if their songbooks do not import automatically during the installation of version 2.5. Allow Download: You can turn the Automatic Song Updater on and off with this selection. If you do not want the updater to search the Internet every time you load KJ Pro, turn it off until you do want to update your database. Rebuild Master: During troubleshooting, you may need to completely rebuild your KJ Pro database. We do not recommend that you use this unless asked to by KJ Pro Tech Support.

IV. KJ Pro Overview

KJ Pro consists of a number of sections you should be familiar with before starting to use it: Songbooks These are the bread and butter of KJ Pro, and the reason you bought the program. There is much you can do with KJ Pro songbooks; we will go into detail on these features later in the manual. There are three songbook designations in KJ Pro: Update, Main and Custom. Those new to KJ Pro can ignore Update and Main and start working with a new Custom Songbook. Database Features You have added most of your library to your songbook, almost complete, but youve got a few discs and they dont have disc numbers. In fact, you have no idea what brand the disc is. But, with KJ Pros search engine, you can type in a Title or Artist (you do have to know something about the disc!) and find all of the discs that have a match. The database also is usable for finding discs you might like to purchase. Print Menu So, you have finished your songbook, put in the final touches and are ready to print. KJ Pros Print Menu lets you customize many details to make the perfect songbook! And if you dont want to print it yourself, KJ Pro can convert it to a format most major print shops can.

Whats new in 2.5?

Improved interface for tagging discs Ability to browse database by date discs were added Better features for importing and exporting Excel files Redesigned screen interfaces for easier navigation

V. Getting Started
Lets create a songbook! You may have a basic idea of what KJ Pro can do, and now you will learn how to do it. Here, we will go through the most basic steps to go from scratch to the final printed songbook. In later sections, we will go over the more advanced aspects of songbook creation. The first step is to gather all of your CDGs organized. We recommend getting them in order because it will help make the next step go as smoothly as possible. This next step is to actually create the songbook and start adding those discs. First, click the Songbook button from the Main Menu and you will see the Songbook Edit Window shown in Figure 4.1. You will use this screen to manage all of your songbooks. You can create new songbooks, edit songbooks, and even import song lists from other programs such as Microsoft Excel. There are three songbook designations: Update, Main, and Custom. Update and Main are the default songbooks that come with the program. However, we will concentrate on Custom now, since it is the most feature-rich option.

Figure 4.1

To create a Custom Songbook, first click the Custom button. This will highlight the New, Remove and Delete buttons. Click New, which is highlighted in red in Figure 4.1.

Figure 4.2

You then will see the Create New Songbook screen shown in Figure 4.2. Type a unique name for this songbook, and then you can start adding discs to it. The lower part of the screen lists all of the discs in the Master Database. You can use the vertical scrollbar on the right side of the window to scroll down the list. To add a disc to your Update songbook, just click in the little box to the left of the desired disc under Tag. This puts a check in the box and tags the song for later addition to the songbook. Scrolling through the entire song database to tag the discs, however, can be time-consuming. Fortunately, KJ Pro makes the job easier. Just use the dropdown box near the top of the window under Disc Series. From the drop-down list, you can click on a particular disc series, such as Chartbuster 200 Pak Pop 85019, and only those discs will be displayed in the lower portion of the screen. To view all of the songs again, just click View All.

If you want to tag all of the discs in a particular series, click Tag All and they will all be tagged automatically. Untag All will do the reverse. To quickly take a peek at what songs are included in a particular disc, click View to the right of the Description. This will open a window that displays the songs for that disc only. When tagging discs from different disc series, its easy to lose track of the series youve already tagged. If so, you can click View Tagged Discs and get a list of just the disc numbers youve tagged in this session. Once youve tagged all of the discs you want to add to your songbook, just click Save Songbook. The program will add only those discs youve tagged, and will display a message saying theyve been added successfully. Clicking Close will take you back to the Songbook Edit Window.

VI. Editing Your Songbook

Lets take a look at the songs you added to your songbook. From the Songbook Edit Window, you can select your songbook from the Custom drop box (shown in Figure 5.1).

Figure 5.1

We will now cover many of the options for editing your songbook. You also can use this screen to access the Print Menu, or to search for discs and songs.

Add: You have two options for adding songs to an existing songbook from this
window. You can choose to add entire discs in the same way that you did in Section V. The same screen you saw in Figure 4.2 will appear, and you can select entire new discs to add to your Songbook. You will enter these discs by clicking on the Add->Discs button. You also can add individual songs. If you have custom-made discs or ones that are not in our database, you can add each song manually. You can add these songs by clicking on the Add->Songs button. (When youre done typing songs, be sure to have your cursor in the last line before clicking Save & Close.) NOTE: We suggest using the Browse feature (described later in this manual) as an easier method of adding entire discs.

Excel: You can exchange data between your Custom Songbook and Microsoft
Excel. This is used primarily if you have been manually managing your songbooks in the past and want to import this data into KJ Pro. You have both Export and Import options; each of these has been expanded and improved from earlier versions of KJ Pro. To export a songbook to Excel, simply click Excel->Export in the Songbook Edit Window. The next window will show the name of the songbook you plan to export. Simply click Copy Songbook To Excel File and choose the location on your computer where you want the file sent. To import, click Excel->Import in the Songbook Edit Window. In the next window, click Choose Excel File to Import to browse for the appropriate Excel file on your computer. (Make sure your Excel file has a header row with the column headings Title, Artist, Description, Disc and Track. These headings must appear as described here, and these must be the only five columns, or an error will occur.) Once you have selected your Excel file, simply choose an existing songbook as your data destination in the Import From Excel window, or create a new one by clicking New Songbook.

Delete: You have a few options to delete songs based on certain criteria.
Many times you will have many songs or entire discs to delete at a time, and KJ Pro makes it easy for you to do this. Be careful when deleting many songs at once, because after you confirm your choice it cannot be undone. Your first option is to delete all songs with vocals. This will remove all songs in your songbook with w/vocals next to the Artist name. Click Delete->w/Vocals to delete all of these songs from your current songbook. You also can choose to delete all of the songs you currently have displayed. This often is used after using filters to choose certain discs, artists, etc. You can accomplish this by clicking on the Delete->Displayed button. The last options are used to delete duplicate copies of songs in your database. First, you can choose to delete copies of songs that are found on more than one of your discs. Use the Delete->Duplicate Titles feature to accomplish this. The other option is Delete->Duplicate Records. This will delete lines from your songbook that are exact matches in all five data fields.

Tools: Within tools, you can copy or rename a songbook. To rename your
songbook, you must copy the songbook to one with a new name, and then delete the original. You also can change the disc numbers of any disc. You may want to give them different names than the ones KJ Pro chooses, and you can do this by clicking Change Disc #s. This will bring up the window shown in figure 5.2.

Figure 5.2

Here, you can enter in new disc numbers and then click Update Numbers when you are done. You also can revert back to the original disc numbers. To revert, check the box next to any disc for which you want to undo changes, and then click Restore. After clicking Cancel, you will be brought back to the Songbook Edit Window.

Additional Features: In addition to these features, there are many tools you can use in the Songbook Edit Window itself. You can edit any of the five data fields for any song simply by highlighting the text and typing your changes.
To better search through your songbooks, you can sort and filter them. By clicking on the drop-down box as shown in figure 5.3, you can select what you want to search for. You can list all similar artists and titles in your songbook, which is useful if you also are using the Delete Duplicates features.

Figure 5.3

Click on the button Show All on the right side of the screen to remove any search criteria and show all of the songs in your songbook again.

VII. Update and Main Songbooks

The Update and Main songbooks are the default books that come with the program. They are used together to give you a quick and easy way to build song lists quickly. You can add songs to the Update Songbook in the same way as Custom Songbooks. It can be used as your only songbook if you have no need of more. You also can use it as a temporary place to store certain song lists. For a more permanent place to store these songs, you can move them into the Main Songbook. If you click on Move Update To Main, you will move every song in the Update Songbook into the Main Songbook. There, you can keep a more permanent songbook with every song that you own. We still recommend that you use Custom Songbooks if you need to keep more than one song list. In all other ways, the Update and Main Songbooks are identical to Custom Songbooks. You can use all features described in Section VI of this manual on all types of songbooks.

VIII. Printing Songbooks

Now, its time to print a songbook. From the Main Menu, click on Print Menu. From this window, you can control the printing for any one of your songbooks. (See Figure 7.1.)

Figure 7.1

You have many options when printing a songbook. Many of these are options carried over from previous versions of KJ Pro. This is why it is recommended that you use only the options available when you select Book Type->Songbook. It is there that you will have the greatest flexibility when designing your printed songbooks. You first will decide which of your songbooks you wish to print. In the upper-left corner of the screen, you will choose which songbook you will print. You can print only one songbook at a time. At the top-center section of this window, you can choose Headers and Footers for your songbook. The header will show up in the upper-right corner of each page. The footers will show up on the lower-right and -left corners, respectively. These can be useful for putting information such as your company name.

Here is a list of your songbook printing options, and how you can use them: Group By: You can choose whether or not to group your songs according to Artist or Title. If you wish to have your songbook printed both ways, you will have to print two copies. This alone is probably the greatest feature within KJ Pro, since sorting all your songs in this manner would be almost impossible with even small song lists. Column: You can choose to print your songbook in a one- or two-column format, based on the preferences of you and your customers. Style: You also can choose to have your songbook shaded, which can help your customers distinguish which songs belong to which disc. There is another option for printing your songbook with indentations, and you get to choose the amount of indentation for the lines of text. Font: You can choose any font that you wish and print in a variety of font sizes. Be careful not to print too small just to save paper; not all of your customers will remember to bring their reading glasses!

Click Preview / Print to actually print your songbook. This will bring up a preview window. Click Printer Control and you can select the appropriate printer. (Make sure you have a printer installed on your computer before trying to print or it will cause errors to occur within the program.) You also can save your songbook to Snapshot Format and to HTML. By saving to Snapshot, you can take your songbook to a local print shop and have it printed there. If you save your songbooks to HTML, you can display the song lists on a website.

IX. Browse Master Database

When using KJ Pro, there are going to be times when you simply need to see a list of all the discs in our database. This also can be useful when you are adding songs to your songbooks. In KJ Pro, you will use the Browse Window shown in Figure 8.1.

Figure 8.1

On the left, you can choose any of the CDG manufacturers that are in the KJ Pro database. When you highlight a description, the discs in that series are displayed under Disc Number. The disc number that is highlighted is then shown on the right side of the screen. If you are searching for discs to add to your songbooks, you can Tag them. Simply find the appropriate disc(s) under Disc Number and use the check box to the left of each number to tag each of your selections. You also can click Tag Discs Below to select all of the discs in a particular Description. All tagged discs appear on the right side of the screen under Tagged Discs. To move these tagged discs to one of your songbooks, select the book from the drop box in the upper-right area of the screen. Once you highlight your songbook, click Copy to Songbook. All of the currently tagged discs are then moved into the selected songbook.

X. Master Database Lookup

Along with browsing the Master Database, you may want to search it for certain artists and song titles. In KJ Pro, you will do this with the Lookup Window. It is very similar to the Browse Window, but is used to search for certain songs instead of certain discs.

Figure 9.1

You have a choice between a simple search and an advanced one. We will describe the advanced search here, since it has all of the features that Lookup has to offer. You can add many different search criteria in the Artist/Title search boxes. You also can have KJ Pro search for a song that Starts With, Ends With, Contains, or is an Exact Match with your search criteria. You can add or remove as many searches as you wish by clicking Add or Remove. The different search criteria each will be highlighted in a different color so it is easy to sort through the results. One of the best features of the Lookup Window helps you find discs that have more than one song that you are looking for. In Figure 9.1, there was a search on the Starship song We Built This City and the John Mellencamp song Jack & Diane. The search found various matches, and you can see that different CDGs give slightly different names for the same artists.

By checking the Search box next to both songs, the list under Disc Number shows two discs that have both We Built This City and Jack & Diane. You can add as many searches as you wish, and hopefully will be able to save money by buying as few discs as possible when looking for new songs. All other features, such as tagging discs and adding them to songbooks, can be done from the Lookup Window as they are in the Browse Window.

XI. Songbook Backups

It is important to create a Backup of your songbooks from time to time. Computers do not warn you when they are about to stop working, and losing your songbooks can sometimes mean that hours of work are lost. And with KJ Pro 2.5, backing up your data is easier than ever.

Figure 1.1

To create a Backup of all of your songbooks: 1) Select Task->Backup. 2) Click Browse to select the directory and name of your Backup. A default Backup name is given in the File Name field. 3) Click Start. Follow the same steps to restore a saved songbook, but select Task->Restore in the upper-left corner. It also is a good idea to save a backup to a removable media device such as a CD-ROM in case your computer crashes

XII. FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

1. Q: Whats the difference between the Update & Main songbooks and the Custom songbooks? A: A useful way of looking at it is that the Update and Main songbooks really are just two pre-customized songbooks that have permanent names. They are handy for people who just want to create a songbook and dont want to bother naming it. Also, you can easily move songs from one of these books to the other. However, some people ignore Update and Main songbooks and just create Custom songbooks for maximum flexibility. Some use all three. It really doesnt matter. All songbooks have the same functionality and print songbooks that are indistinguishable from each other. If you want to create multiple songbooks, or create your own library of songs to copy to other songbooks, the Custom songbooks feature is the best choice. 2. Q: How do I type in my own songs? A: In the Songbook Edit Window, click the Add->Songs button. A new window will open where you can type new songs in a row-by-row format. 3. Q: How do I copy songs from one songbook to another? A: Go into the Songbook Edit Window and click the Tools->Copy Songs button. Select the destination songbook you want to copy to and click the appropriate Copy to button. If you filter the songs (so that only a particular disc or series is displayed), only the filtered songs will be copied. 4. Q: I printed my songbook and discovered a page that has an error on it. How do I reprint just that page without printing the whole songbook all over again? A: From the Print Menu, click the Preview button for the songbook with the error. Click the Printer Control button at the top-left of the screen. In Print Range, type the range of page(s) you want to print and click OK. Only the pages specified will be printed. You also can use this feature to specify the number of copies to print. 5. Q: How can I customize the disc numbers so they fit my own system? A: In the Songbook Edit Window, click on the Tools->Change Disc #s button. This will open a window that lists the existing disc numbers in one column. Just type the new disc numbers in the column to the right and click Update Numbers.

6. Q: Why is it that after I download the song database update, the songs are in the Master Database but when I go to create a new songbook, the new discs arent displayed? A: You probably didnt do the last step in the update process. Go to the View/Filter window of the Master Song Database and click the button on top that says Refresh Disc Selection. To change back to the original numbers, click on the check box to the right of the disc and then click Restore. 7. Q: Why is it that in some cases the songs in the Master Song Database are different from the ones on my actual disc? A: Karaoke manufacturers frequently substitute songs or change track numbers when they reissue discs. This often happens when their licensing for a song expires and they cant get it renewed; or, they publish disc information about the disc that is simply wrong. It is impossible to keep up with all of these changes or track the various manifestations of disc versions. While we strive to maintain an accurate database and make corrections, discrepancies between the Master Song Database and your individual discs are bound to occur. For this reason, it is absolutely essential that before printing and replicating your songbook you print a songbook Sorted by Disc. You can use this report to compare it against your actual discs to make sure they agree with each other. If you are preparing songbooks for other KJs, provide them with this report so they can certify that it agrees with their own song library.
