Learning Unit 1

Theme : World of knowledge Topic : Sounds Around Us Focus : Listening and speaking Content Standard (s): 1.1- Pupils will be able to pronounce words and speak Confidently with the correct stress, rhythm and intonation. Learning standard : 1.1.1- Able to listen and respond to stimulus given with Guidance. a) Environmental sounds. 1.1.4- Able to talk about the stimulus with guidance. Objective: By the end of the lesson pupils should be able to listen and pronounce seven sounds correctly. Activities: 1. Guessing game ( Name of animals ) 2. Teacher introduces the sounds of the animals by showing flash cards. 3. Teacher sings the song with action and pupils follow. Teacher stresses on the sounds of the animals. 4. Pupils will sing aloud with action. Teaching aids: Picture cards Flash cards Lyrics of the song on mahjong paper Teaching and learning strategies: Kinesthetic and verbal linguistic Added values: Pupils sing the song with actions. Learning Unit 1 Theme: World of knowledge Topic: Sounds around us Focus: Reading Content standard: 2.1 Pupils will be able to apply knowledge of sounds of letters to recognize words in linear and non linear text. Learning standard: 2.1.2 Able to recognize and articulate initial, medial and final sound in single syllable words within given context. a) tt, zz, oo, moo, rr, ss, mm 2.2.1 Able to read and apply word recognition and word attacks skills by matching words with a) graphics b) spoken words Objectives: By the end of the lesson pupils should be able to 1. read and match pictures with words 2. Articulate the 7 sounds of animals correctly Activities: 1. Teacher introduces simple words and reads aloud with action. eg: mat, tap, zip, moon, rat and six 2. Pupils look and read aloud the words on the word cards with teachers guidance with action. 3. Pupils match the flash cards with pictures. Teaching aids: word cards, picture cards Teaching and learning strategies: Verbal linguistic Added values: Pupils do the actions and say aloud the words. (Creativity)

Learning Unit 1 Theme Topic Focus Content : World of knowledge : Sound around us : Writing : 3.1 By the end of the lesson pupils will be able to form letters and words in neat legible print including cursive writing. : 3.1.1 Able to demonstrate fine motor control of hands and fingers by d. scribbling in clock wise movement e. Scribbling in anti-clock wise movement h. Drawing patterns Objective Activities : By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to scribble 7 different patterns. : 1. Pupils sing a song learned earlier in day 1. 2. Pupils scribble the letters in the air and on the desk. 3. Pupils complete the song with missing letters using word cards. 4. Pupils make formation of letters using gymnastic technique. 5. Pupils scribble the patterns of the letters on blank papers. Learning Unit 1 Theme Topic Focus Content Learning Standard : World of knowledge : Sound around us : Language Art : 4.1 By the end of the lesson pupils will be able to enjoy and appreciate rhymes, poems and songs. : 4.1.1 Able to enjoy nursery rhymes and action songs through non-verbal response

: 4.1.2 Able to recite nursery rhymes and sing action songs with correct pronunciation and rhythm. Objective : By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to sing songs with action and form models of animals using plasticine with teachers guidance. : 1. Teacher will sing a song. Pupils respond with action. (They imitate the action of the animals when the names of animals are mentioned in the song). 2. Pupils sing the song loudly with action. 3. Pupils are divided into 5 groups. They are given plasticine. Teacher demonstrate how to form a model of an animals (snake). 4. Pupils follow the demonstration shown.. 5. Pupils will form their own favourite animals according to their own creativity.
