Understanding the Nature of SL

Daniel Breen Study (1970)
Questionnaires to 148 colleges, 60 responded, 40 had leadership development programs. Six commonalities of leadership programs:
Students were always involved in planning the programs The student activities department took a major role in the planning and implementation of these programs The best programs cost money Weekend retreat formats were very popular Effective programs usually involved small groups and experience-based learning of an interpersonal and problemsolving nature with the theory and lecture kept to a minimum. Feedback sessions where participants were permitted to react to the program were very beneficial.
