Hard Drive (SAS) Near Line SAS Hard Drive (SATA) Energy Effiecient SATA
Objective Handling:
More Disks, higher capacity Objection: The MSA2000 supports 2.5 disks and up to 99 disks with MSA70. Response: In fact, 2.5 disk is not that mature for its lower performance and higher price. The maximum capacity with 2.5 SAS disk is 146GB while 3.5 SAS d 450GB. Customer who would like to have 90 disks expansion may focus on capacity expansion or multi-host connection. For capacity expansion, using 3.5 S be a good way to reduce cost. For multi-host connection, the customer could buy two MD3000 system which will provide better performance and almost the s price.
More RAID level support Objection: The MSA2000 supports more raid option 0,1,3,5,6,10,50 while MD3000/I support 0,1,10,5,6 Response: Dell has selected only optimal RAID levels to cover an organizations range of data requirements. This removes the complexity of unnecessary R levels to choose from that are often not used in todays environments and/or have proven to be obsolete (i.e. RAID 3). Dell has also implemented the highest performing RAID 6 implementation that is hardware-based instead of HPs software-based RAID 6 which requires greater CPU cycles and impacts performance Bigger Cache, Higher Performance Objection: The MSA2000 support 2GB cache while MD3k series only support 1GB cache Response: Higher cache size in many environments, will not improve performance. As cache size increases, cache hit rates will also increase the closer rates are to 100%, the less likely the cache hit rate will continue to increase from there. Referencing the performance numbers in testing, it is evident that the cache of the HP MSA2000 series was not able to out perform the MD3000 or MD3000i with 512MB of cache in IOPs or bandwidth
MSA2000 can provide remote DR Objection: MSA2000 supports Replication Software Response: In fact, MSA2000 is using Double-Take as their replication software. The software is host-based, not array-based. We also could use Double-Tak for MD3k is on the certification list of Double-Take.

Objective Handing:
Larger Cache, Better performance Objection: The IBM DS3200 supports a cache upgrade optionmost likely available at a significant price premiumthat increases on-board cache from 512 1GB, resulting in a total of 2GB mirrored cache for dual controller configurations. This represents 2X more cache than the MD3000 Response: The extra cache could yield performance benefits in some application scenarios, but this is not a given. The majority of DAS array systems of this integrate 512MB, which has proven ideal for one to four servers Better Scalability and Densitiy Objection: IBM claims support for up to three add-on EXP3000 disk units, increasing expansion breadth to 48 drives, or 14.4 TB, based on 300GB disk optio the majority of customers today, this expansion range is significantly beyond intermediate-term requirements.
Response: Expansion is planned for the MD3000 to 45 drives in the first half of 2007. For customers today, it is important to note that the MD3000 scales to 4.5TB within the control unitthats 20% more expansion breadth in the control unit than IBMs DS3200, which means compelling $/GB value for capacity-co customers today. Notably, for MD3000 units deployed today, external expansion can be accomplished via a simple firmware upgrade.
Support more hosts, better scalability Objection: The IBM DS3200 supports an optional daughter card that enables three active host ports on each controller. This means up to six non-HA hosts o HA hosts can be directly interconnected to the array. The Dell PowerVault MD3000 supports two host ports on each controller, for direct interconnect of a tota non-HA hosts or two HA hosts
Response: The daughter card option, along with the other options available for the DS3200, will most likely come at a price premium that will drive up the tot ownership for the product, with significant impact on value. To realize best value for small-scale consolidation, customers are best served by entry SAN platfo such as the Dell|EMC AX products. Notably, also, the Dell|EMC CX300 represents a remarkably scalable, yet affordable, enterprise-class SAN platform.

Flexibility and easy to move from iSCSI to FC Objection: NetApp 2000 support NAS, iSCSI and FC SAN Response: It is true, but Multiprotocol environments result in ever decreasing performance and larger, faster systems include very expensive SW & Features FC host ports requires purchase of FCP. NAS software is expensive. Faster CPU, better performance Objection: NetApp FAS2020 has faster CPUs than Dell MD3000 systems Response: Dell uses hardware XOR. NetApp depends entirely on the CPUs to handle all XOR burden plus system software and snap software. Flexibility and ease of use.
Objection: NetApp offers numerous software options that are unmatched by Dells MD3000 line Response: NetApp offers numerous software options that are unmatched by Dells MD3000 line. NetApps Software solutions become very expensive, espec dual controller (clustered) configurations while MD3000 software is licensed per system.
