bharathiraja picks karthika
veteran director bharathiraja has recently approached karthika to play the lead role in his ambitious project annakodiyum kodiveeranum, which will have Parthiban in the lead. The film will also have iniya (of vaagai Sooda vaa fame) as the second lead. Set in madurai, annakodiyum kodiveeranum is a period film which runs through four decades: 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Parthiban will be doing a dual role with very unique get ups. The director has already roped in young composer G.v. Prakash as the music director for the project. Since music plays an important role and has to reflect the respective periods, Gv is currently doing research on the kind of folk music in these four decades. The movie will begin its first schedule in Theni on november 20, 2011.

dhanush turns b-town director?

national award winning actor dhanush is all set to turn director soon. The actor is reportedly in mumbai pitching story lines to some of the top bollywood actors. Grapevine has it that the actor is all set to direct a hindi film soon. dhanush is currently shooting for his wife aishwaryas directorial debut 3 and awaiting the release of mayakkam Enna, directed by brother Selvaraghavan. according to sources, it was dhanushs long time plan to direct a film in hindi and he was waiting for the right time to start the project.

we reported that director vijay is all set to team up with vikram again for an upcoming flick and it is said this project may take off by year end. now the latest buzz is that the project, to be produced by Utv motion Pictures, is titled as Thandavam. anushka and amy Jackson will play the female leads. it is something different, as the whole film hinges on vikrams performance in a very difficult role. There will be two heroines who have to match up to the hero to make it convincing. it will be laced with emotions and at the same time, it will be also be a feel-good family entertainer that will leave a lump in your throat. my regular team of nirav, Gv, Selva and anthony will be backing me up. i cant reveal anything more about the film at this stage, director vijay.

dookudus 50th day

celebrations!
The date for the 50-day function of Prince mahesh babus runaway hit dookudu has been finalised. The event will take place on november 12 at Siddhartha college grounds in vijayawada. The makers are organising the event in a grant manner. mahesh babu, Super Star krishna, vijaya nirmala, Samantha ruth Prabhu, Parvati melton and others will attend the function. The makers expect that around a lakh of mahesh babu fans would turn up for this gala ceremony, so they are planning to bring mahesh babu at the venue in a special chopper, it is heard.

ajith not dubbing for pawan

Earlier there were reports that director vishnuvardhan has approached ajith to lend his voice for the tamil version of Pawan kalyans ongoing telugu film Panjaa. however sources close to ajith have denied such reports. The telugu version is slated for december release, but it is yet to be confirmed whether the tamil version would be released simultaneously. Sarah Jane dais and anjali lavania are the heroines. music is by yuvanshankar raja and cinematography is by P.S. vinod. The word is that ajith is likely to team up with director vishnuvardhan for a film in near future.

in trouble?
whenever our filmmakers try to make a film on some real life person, controversies are bound to arise. The latest is the case of Ekta kapoors dirty Picture apparently based on the life of South sensation Silk Smitha. v. naga vara Prasad, brother of Silk Smitha is upset that the makers have made a film on his late sister without taking permission from the family members. he sent a legal notice to the makers. in reply the makers clarified in a statement that the film is not a formal biopic. with reference to the legal notice received and the ongoing speculation about the film, balaji wishes to clarify that dirty Picture is the romantic journey of a fiercely ambitious starlet who dreams of making it big on the silver screen. The film is not a formal biopic or biography, as is being speculated. it is a work of fiction, and any characters resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is coincidental, the statement said. now what does vara have to say about this, we will have to wait and watch.

lekhas next
former video jockey and tv host lekha washington, who made her tollywood debut with vedam (2010) in which she played lasya, has signed her second telugu film after a brief gap. lekha will be part of director lakshmikanth chennas new film, which is said to be a remake of a bollywood super hit. The details and title of the movie are not yet revealed. however, the shooting started during deepavali. lekha is also acting in a bollywood film, featuring amitabh bachchan and ajay devgn in the lead roles under the direction of rajkumar Santoshi.

shriya attacked!
Shriya Saran was attacked by alleged pro telangana activists earlier this week. the actress was in her car when protestors threw stones at her car, smashing the glass. one stone just went past her without injuring her. the protesters wanted her to say Jai telangana for the tv camera. Shriya was very upset and scared. tweeting about the incident she said, im born in india and i deserve my freedom and safety is my right! Shriya has also posted pictures of her ransacked car.

The actress confesses that despite her struggle, it was the disease that made her the strong person that she is today. and her movie journey has been equally eventful! She was supposed to make her telugu debut in aata, opposite Siddharth, for whatever reason, she was replaced with ileana, but mamta still had her name on the credits only now, it was as playback singer! Thats the way to go! in an industry where over-night stars slip away into black holes as fast as they shoot to fame, mamta learnt right at the very start that you always have to be prepared for set-backs, and try to find the silver lining. mamta who wanted to set the silver screen ablaze, found herself smothered with singing offers soon after her singing stint in aata in the music of devi Sri Prasad. it was Siddharth who introduced her to devi Sri Prasad, and when she had sung a few lines of a couple of hindi songs, she had no idea he would soon be calling her to actually record a number for the movie! The movie is a full on commercial flick and is in the final stages of shooting. another movie in her kitty is the malayalam flick naanum Ente familyum. The movie has her paired with actor Jayaram and like the name suggests this ones a family drama with a good dose of humour. The interesting part is that while in Thadayara Thakka mamta is playing a glam role, in her malayalam movie she plays a mother of two kids! while many actresses her age shy away from such parts, mamta has absolutely no issues with the role. in fact she believes it will add that much more character to her filmography. and as mamta celebrates her birthday this month in november 14, it would be an extra special celebration as she would be engaged by then to her childhood friend. The ceremony is set to take place on november 11, 2011. So along with birthday wishes, we also wish her a great future as she prepared to enter marital bliss too!
