Lesson 5: Changing Line Spacing 1. Open Microsoft Word and name it as msword-ex5 2. In your header and footer, make sure that the following information are written: Left header: Your full name Center header: Your course, block and year Right header: The date and Time that you created the document Right Footer: Page Number 3. Type the paragraphs below, using the Tab key to indent the first line of each paragraph:

The Empire State Building in New York City is one of the most famous buildings in the world. For a long time, it was also the tallest building with 102 stories. Completed ahead of schedule in 1931, it took only one year and 45 days (including Sundays and holidays) to build. The Empire State Build has a fascinating history. over 90 movies have feature it. In 1945, a B-25 cargo plane crashed into it at the 79th floor. Thousands of people visit the viewing area at the top of the building every year.
4. Immediately correct any mistakes using the Backspace key as you type. 5. Change the spacing of the lines in both paragraphs to double. (To do so, highlight both paragraphs. Click the Home tab and locate the paragraph ribbon group. Locate the Line Spacing button and select 2.0 for the double spacing.) 6. Turn on the Caps Lock and type the title LIGHTNING and press the Enter key. 7. Center and bold the title. 8. Position the insertion point below the title and type the paragraphs below, using the Tab key to indent the first line of the first two paragraphs only. Lightning is exciting and dangerous. Scientists estimate that lightning strikes the Earth 100 times each second. That means lightning is hitting us 8.6 million times per day! Lightning is an electrical discharge and is five times hotter than the sun. If lightning is in an area, it will strike the best electrical conductor on the ground. This may or may not be the tallest object in that area. 9. Press the Enter key and type the following paragraph. Here are some important lightning and weather safety tips: 10.Press the Enter key and type the following paragraph: Contact the local American Red Cross or another reliable source for information on how often lightning strikes in your area. The state of Florida has the highest incidence of lightning strikes in the United States. 11.Press the Enter key and type the following paragraph: Learn what you can do in a lightning emergency. You and your family should know basic first aid, CPR, and also how to treat lightning shock. 12.Press the Enter key and type the following paragraph: Always check the weather before heading out for any outdoor event or activity. Seeking shelter is the best defense against lightning. 13.Immediately correct any mistakes using the Backspace key as you type. 14.Change the line spacing to double for the title and introductory paragraphs. 15.Indent the safety tips paragraphs one-half inch. 16.Format the safety tips so there is a blank line between each using either the Format Paragraph feature or the Enter key. 17.Save your file.
