Ever Wonder What Our Wing Patch Means?

The West Virginia Wing Patch was designed by Capt Eddie Middlekauff in 1950. The central figure in the design is the Bell X-1 that was piloted by Captain Charles Chuck Yeager of Hamlin, West Virginia. Captain Yeager was the first man to break the sound barrier while flying the Bell X-1 in 1947. He is now General Chuck Yeager, USAF retired. The red triangle is a holdover from the Civil Defense symbol used during World War II.

FYI
Aircrew
As you are aware, earlier this year the WV Wing instituted a procedure on checking out the aircraft. It is an on-line aircraft reservation program call Flight Schedule Pro (FSP). We now need to record the Hobbs and Tach time on this program after each fight. You can record this time anytime after your flight, however Wing has asked that you make your recordings no later than midnight of that day. Shelton Davis has developed a step by step tutorial which is on our squadron web-site in the aircrew tab. It may seem like a long process, but after you do it once it can easily be accomplished in less than 2 minutes. I have been given administrative rights to the program so if you make a mistake that you are unable to correct, please notify me via email so that I can fix it. I spent a good amount of time correcting all the mistakes from January to the present so lets all make a valid attempt to make correct entries. Some of the repeated mistakes: *Reserving the aircraft for the whole day (This action prevents anyone else from reserving the aircraft that day.). *Reserving the aircraft but never checking it out or even though the flight took place (This action prevents the Hobbs and Tach time from flowing properly.). *Reserving the aircraft, checking it out, but never checking it back in (This action prevents any flight after that one to be checked out.). If you need help please let me know and we can sit down together and do a hands on training. Thanks for all that you do in CAP. Fly Safe 1stLt. Sixto Velez

Memorial Scholarship Established in Honor of Civil Air Patrol Leader
Colonel Rodney F. Moody, CAP a resident of Sophia, West Virginia passed away on February 7, 2009. In his honor, his wife Lt Col Connie Moody, CAP has established the COLONEL RODNEY F. MOODY MEMORIAL CIVIL AIR PATROL SCHOLARSHIP to recognize and assist deserving Civil Air Patrol cadets of the West Virginia Wing in the advancement of their leadership training and skills. This scholarship, established through the Beckley Area Foundation, will provide financial assistance to one or more WV Wing cadets each year by funding their attendance and participation at one of several CAP leadership training programs. Col Moody held leadership positions as the WV Wing Commander and as the Comptroller at CAPs National Headquarters at Maxwell AFB, Alabama. Yet, in spite of all of his administrative responsibilities, Col Moodys heart and focus remained directed toward the young cadets in the organization the 12 to 21 year old future leaders under his charge. He was often heard to say The cadets are the future of CAP. He wanted to see them become our nations leaders.

This Issue Cadet Profile Name: Raymie Roberts Rank: C/Sr.Airman SQN Position: Cadet Supply Officer Small Bio: Originally from the Lubeck WV area, I now live in Barlow OH. I am a sophomore at Warren High School and live and work on a farm.

I serve in the Warren FFA Charter and for recreation I serve as a corporal in the Civil War reenacting unit 13th Virginia Culpeper rifleman. I enjoy history, outdoors, hunting, and volunteering. I It was his leadership and support as the Wing Commander in West hope to join the US Army Virginia that made possible the CAP Cadet Leadership Training Course now held annually at the National Mine Health and Safety Academy. Col National Guard in September.
Moody also gave his full support to cadet competition teams, such as Drill Teams and Color Guards, even to the extent of traveling with the teams to competition events in other Wings and CAP Regions. He also provided Color Guard equipment to every CAP Squadron in West Virginia so that each cadet had the opportunity to develop the leadership skills necessary to be a member of a Color Guard. You did not have to be with Rodney Moody very long before you heard about one additional cadet activity that held a very special place in his heart, the Cadet Encampment Program. This annual event, that provides a full week of leadership training to scores of WV cadets, was Col Moodys pride and joy. He generously supported the Encampment with money, equipment and personnel from the Wing Headquarters and then proudly congratulated the cadets upon their graduation. Another area that he strongly supported was cadet participation in the Emergency Services Program. He encouraged all cadets to complete CAP search and rescue training and become leaders in the field on CAP actual search and rescue missions. In addition, he actively promoted the Aerospace Education Program for cadets, making CAP funds available for aerospace activities, cadet orientation flights and cadet flight scholarships. Many past cadets in West Virginia may have never met Col Rodney F. Moody while he served as their leader and many more will never have the chance to meet him, but all future cadets in WV Wing will have a better opportunity to become the leaders they want to be, and the leaders he envisioned, through the financial resources of this memorial scholarship. Col Moody passed away, but his passion for and pride in those young CAP cadets will not pass away or be forgotten.

This is my second year in CAP. My Favorite Quote: If youre early, youre on time. If youre on time, youre late. If youre late, youre in big trouble.
